The NFL has agreed on a two-year extension of its network TV deals with Fox and CBS through the 2013 season, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday.

In a conference call about The League's new deal with Comcast Corp. to carry the NFL Network, Goodell mentioned the extension of the network TV agreements that have been expected in recent days.

A report in the Sports Business Journal a few days ago had said that the extensions were in the works. Sources said the increase in rights fees paid by the networks was in the low single digital percentage range.

Under the deal, CBS is set to broadcast the Super Bowl taking place in early 2013, with Fox carrying the one in early 2014.

    So no more Super Bowl rights for ABC, despite their affiliation with ESPN and MNF? When was the last time ABC had the Super Bowl? 2006?

  8. TomSD

    Which network has the 2012 Super Bowl?

    There’s only 2 options for the 2010 post SB slot, The Mentalist and BBT with the later most likly because of the move behind 2 and a Half Men.

  9. Jim

    abc cant have the super bowl…even though espn has the nfl the super bowl can only be on stations that actually show the game.

    Super Bowl XLIV Miami, Feb 7, 2010 (CBS).
    Super Bowl XLV Dallas, Feb 2011 (FOX).
    Super Bowl XLVI Indianapolis, Feb 2012 (NBC).

  10. Jim

    abc last super bowl was feb 06…thye shows greys anatomy as the post show.

  11. I was expecting Ugly Betty to get the Superbowl lead-in, I guess not anymore

  12. Jesse

    @TomSD

    How I Met Your Mother. Mark it down, take it to the bank, it’s going to happen.

  13. TomSD

    @Jesse,

    You wish.

  14. Jesse

    I don’t wish. I feel pretty confident. Comedies are more mass appeal than dramas, so that kind of rules out The Mentalist, and dorks don’t watch football therefore Big Bang Theory wouldn’t appeal to the Super Bowl audience.

    How I Met Your Mother makes the most sense if you think about it.

    HIMYM is a 20th TV (FOX) show, it’s starting it’s 5th season, it was already passed for the spot 3 years ago.
    CBS is preparing BBT for the spot next year, airing behind 2 and a Half Men would make it the #2 comedy on Television. BBT has a broader appeal than HIMYM and much more growth potential. A lot of people just don’t get the show, and because Moonvers is one of them they didn’t get the spot in 2007.

    I think HIMYM is the best comedy on Television and I wish it would get the post SB spot, but I’m realistic enough to understand that it’s a very long shot.
    The only way HIMYM will be in the spot is if CBS would do what FOX did in 2005 when it aired The Simpsons and Family Guy back to back.
