CNN Turns 29 Years Old

Monday, June 1st. What is now routine for many Americans each day -- checking an all-news cable television channel for the latest events around the world -- began on this day 29 years ago. That's when CNN -- the Cable News Network -- started its service. At the time, many critics questioned whether the public would be interested in a channel that carried nothing but news, 24 hours a day. Now, there are not only a number of such news channels, but others dedicated fully to weather, golf, automobiles and cooking, among other special interests. When CNN began operations, one-in-five American households were hooked up to cable. Today, cable television reaches nearly three-out-of-four homes across the U.S.

What? No mention of FOX News kicking CNN’s butt? At least they can still say “WE ARE #2!!!”

Granted, FOX News is king in the cable news ratings but with FOX being so far to the right and MSNBC being so far to the left, I enjoy CNN solely for their more moderate and more commonly unbiased reporting over the others, this in regards to each networks prime time shows(i.e. OReily, Beck, Olberman, Maddow) . And….being a fan of MSNBC, I am well aware of their interests as i do FOX’s. Both are good networks, but CNN is king for..well…being the first. You must give them props.
