Powered by hit original programming “JONAS,” “Sonny With A Chance,” “Hannah Montana” and “Phineas and Ferb,Disney Channel ranked as TV’s No. 1 network in Total Day in Tweens 9-14 (1.9 rating – tie) for the second consecutive month, a position held 4 out of 5 weeks during the month in the key demo.

In Tweens 9-14, Disney Channel was home to the month’s Top 2 scripted TV series with “JONAS” (5.7 rating/1.4 million) and “Sonny With A Chance” (5.0 rating/1.2 million), cable’s No. 1 series telecast with “Hannah Montana” (8.1 rating/2.0 million – 5/3/09) and TV’s No. 1 animated series with “Phineas and Ferb” (3.0 rating/723,000).

In Kids 6-11, Disney Channel delivered the month’s Top 2 TV series with “JONAS” (6.0 rating/1.5 million) and “Sonny With a Chance” (5.4 rating/1.3 million), and TV’s No. 1 animated series with “Phineas and Ferb” (3.8 rating – tie).  Moreover, Sunday’s May 3rd original airing of “Hannah Montana” stood as the month’s No. 1 series telecast on all of television (8.1 rating/2.0 million, 8:00 – 8:30 p.m. – tie), with lead-out “Sonny With a Chance” (8.0 rating/2.0 million, 8:30 – 9:00 p.m. – tie) placing No. 3.

Propelled by hit series “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and newest entry “Special Agent Oso,” both Top 10 players this month in targeted Kids 2-5 demo, Disney Channel’s Playhouse Disney block delivered the largest Total Viewer (1.2 million) and Kid 2-5 (509,000) audiences ever for a May in the daypart, increasing by a considerable 20% and by 24% (1.0 million and 410,000, respectively), versus year-ago levels (May 08).

In Total Day, May 09 wrapped as the net’s most-watched May on record in Total Viewers (1.4 million), Kids 6-11 (521,000) and Tweens 9-14 (452,000).  Year to year, the net improved by hefty double-digit percentages: +17% in Total Viewers (vs. 1.2 million), +20% in Kids 6-11 (vs. 434,000) and +22% in Tweens 9-14 (vs. 370,000).

In Prime, Disney Channel extended its reign as cable’s No. 1 network to 51 consecutive months in Kids 6-11 (3.7 rating/907,000) and to 50 straight months in Tweens 9-14 (3.2 rating/769,000).

Program Highlights

  • In Tweens 9-14, on an all-play basis, Disney Channel was home to the month’s Top 2 scripted TV series with “JONAS” (5.7 rating/1.4 million) and “Sonny With A Chance” (5.0 rating/1.2 million), and 6 of the Top 8 with “The Suite Life on Deck” (No. 5T – 3.0 rating/731,000), “Phineas and Ferb” (No. 5T – 3.0 rating/723,000), “Wizards of Waverly Place” (No. 7T – 2.9 rating/715,000) and “Hannah Montana” (No. 7T – 2.9 rating/697,000) added to the mix.

  • In Kids 6-11, based on all series plays, Disney Channel delivered TV’s No. 2 TV programs with “JONAS” (6.0 rating/1.5 million) and “Sonny With a Chance” (5.4 rating/1.3 million), and 5 of the Top 8 on all cable when including “Phineas and Ferb” (No. 5T – 3.8 rating/918,000), “The Suite Life on Deck” (No. 7 – 3.4 rating/838,000) and “Hannah Montana” (No. 8 -3.3 rating/805,000).

  • Throughout May 09, “Mickey Mouse Clubhouseposted another dominant victory in its time period in Kids 2-5 (644,000/3.9 rating, M-Su, 8:30 a.m. – 8:55 a.m.), overshadowing No. 2, Nickelodeon, by 15% (558,000/3.4 rating, “Dora the Explorer” and “Fairly OddParents), and ranking No. 9 overall for the month.

  • For the second straight month, “Special Agent Osoranked No. 1 versus all TV in its time slot in Kids 2-5 (620,000/3.8 rating, M-Su, 8:00 – 8:30 a.m.), dominating runner-up, Nickelodeon, by 46% (425,000/2.6 rating – “Back at the Barnyard,” “Spongebob” and “Fairly OddParents”), and placed No. 10 overall for the month in the key demo.
