WINS THE WEEK – BEATING THE COMPETITION IN TOTAL VIEWERS, A25-54 AND HOMES
NEW YORK – June 2, 2009 – According to Nielsen Media Research data, "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of May 25-31, 2009. During the week, the Williams-led newscast grew to 7.570 million total viewers, +677K more than ABC "World News'" 6.893 million, and +2.194 million more than CBS "Evening News'" 5.376 million. Season-to-date "Nightly" leads ABC by 764K viewers.
All three newscasts were labeled as specials on Monday for the Memorial Day holiday and are not included in the weekly or season averages.
"Nightly" has won for 33 consecutive weeks in total viewers, and for 27 straight weeks in A25-54.
Among the key demographic adults 25-54, "Nightly News" delivered a 1.8, ahead of ABC's 1.5 rating and CBS' 1.3 rating. "Nightly" led "World News" by +338,000 A25-54 viewers for the week. Season-to-date "Nightly" leads ABC by 301K A25-54 viewers.
In homes, "Nightly News" won with a 5.0 rating and an 11 share. In second place ABC drew a 4.6/10, and CBS posted a 3.7/8.
On its digital platforms, "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" continued its strong performance with more than 3.7 million online streams for the week ending May 30, 2009.
