if colorful language offends you, don't read this!
From Josh Friedman's blog:
So where was I?
Oh. Right.
I had this little scary robot show and for whatever reason couldn't convince enough people that it was a) scary enough b) robot enough or c) in English. Add that dim sum combo of factors to a red bean paste of non-monetizable early adopters dvring the show like motherfuckers and now I'm unemployed.
Everyone says having your show cancelled is like a death but I've been dead before and at least when you're dead you don't get thrown off the Warner Bros. lot for haunting your old parking space. They probably mean it's like the death of a friend or a family member but that shit only hurts when it's YOUR friend or family member and even then it's mitigated by age, lifestyle and whether that person was a Hollywood friend or a real one and whether that family member left you money.
Losing your show is more like a surprise divorce where you get served papers in the morning and your (ex)wife is fucking Human Target by three in the afternoon using the same time slot your child was conceived in and also where she did that one thing that one time on your birthday.
People say the bright side to losing your show is gaining time to spend with your family but I'm pretty sure that waking up next to your ex-showrunner spouse whom you haven't seen for two and a half years is pretty close to waking up next to that special someone you met the night before at Carlos n' Charlie's in Cancun on Spring Break.
I haven't perused the comments yet, but on a guess, that will keep Richard Steven Hack busy for a good long while. I have to admit, I enjoyed the hell out of Friedman's ranting. How can you not love:
I guess there were signs that the show was in trouble (other than the 1.3 rating and the four share). First there was the day I was in my office and looked up to see Chuck Lorre and a Warner Bros. facilities manager standing in my doorway pointing to various features and using their hands to take "air measurements." (Chuck tried to play it off like waving to me God Bless him, but I know an air measurement when I see it.)
And it only gets better after that! While I didn't love a lot of season two, I absolutely loved that blog post. If there's ever a Hall of Fame for blog posts by executive producers after their show gets canceled, that post deserves its own wing!

Oh geez. I love how he feels like he’s been screwed, but I’ve watched the second season, and for pretty much the whole thing, I thought I was being punked for spending 16 S2 episodes with the plot going nowhere. Sorry, S1 was great, but the second season was stagnant. Maybe if he wants people to be loyal to your show, how about not slapping FOX & WB in the face with a plot that’s treading water.
I kept watching waiting for things to happen, and for almost the entire season NOTHING happened. Oh wow, John’s annoying gf is not who she says she is. Thank you for taking like 16 eps to tell me that, without really building her into a likable “I wish her well” character before dropping the “bomb”.
First!
I like an executive with a sense of humor. Maybe he could have that infused some into his show? Just kidding. I’ve never even seen an episode.
I love rants. hehe.
ok fine, second.
If T:SCC had showed the same black humor evident in Josh’s blog posting today, it’d still be on the air.
I hope JF learns from T:SCC and comes back with something new, the man’s got enormous talent.
Ok he was definitively drunk

If Friedman had injected into the show even a tenth of the wit seen here, perhaps it would still be on.
I give this snarky cancellation rant a solid 8.6, slightly behind Greg Garcia’s “It’s hard to be too upset about being thrown off the Titanic” but a little bit above Don Todd’s “regarding the comment…that I was removed from Ugly Betty before I could ruin it, I just have to take exception. Thirteen episodes is plenty of time to ruin a show; indeed, comments elsewhere in this forum have pointed out that I ruined Samantha Who? after only one.” Fine showing, Josh Friedman. Fine showing indeed.
The show stumbled pretty hard in season 2. I dont blame the actors, but the writers and producers. Blaming the DVR crowed was kinda harsh, but when your show is on Friday and your market uses that night for dates and boozing, DVR or HULU are the only options.
Don’t forget that the show wasn’t owned by FOX and that played a big role in the cancellation.
Big who cares. The TSCC fans got played. Bigtime. Freedman is an ass.. now can we move on?
Oh and BTW, TS hasent been the smash hit that folks predicted it would be… So sad fox didnt renew TSCC and mine all that gold just sitting out there because of the movie (sarcastic)
hahaha, someone was a little miffed.
That post was briliant tnx a lot Bob for bringing it to our attention, I would have missed it. I laughed my ass off, I almost forgot what kind of a idiot was Friedman for writing crap episodes (second half of season 2) and for ending the show with a cliffhanger.
Some guy named John … it’s look like the producers does not blame themselves either and the fans does not blame the producers …so finally who is the asshole guilty for that crappy funeral episode ? ?
I thought the second season was so so until the season finale. It would have been interesting to see how that played out.
Judging by the pace of this past season, I’d say you would have had to wait until the end of the third season for ANYTHING to have played out on that show.
But I agree with a bunch of posts on this page; had the guy put as much thought and creativity to the show as he did in the rant, the show would have been SO much better.
I seriously want to ask him what most of the second season’s point was.
The only person involved with the show that I feel bad for is Brian Austin Green. I was actually incredibly impressed with him on the show; but the show was a waste of his talent.
I read it and was not impressed. He was paid good money for creativity and didn’t deliver. This is the rant of just another Hollywood hack. Good riddence.
I think everyone who works with the show had to be at least a little drunk.
Whilst I was fairly certain it was in English, I thought the only scary bits where the bad writing and absence of plot, direction and robotics.
So, what are the odds that post will be deleted within 24 hours?
Hmm josh friedman or his crazy stuff cow must of wrote that.Ether way that was funny.
so whats the take on this?
he says he didnt know the show was cancelled
how can that be?
is this BS
funny BS but BS none the less>?
did he know?
forget your thoughts on the show being good or bad we will be here forever
i am asking did he and the cast know?
The rant was about what it’s like to work inside a giant entertainment corp.
Where fresh Popcorn is made every hour. The stuff about Warner Bros security very funny, if it was not 100% true.
a) I covet Summer’s hair, and the jacket she’s wearing (anyone know where I can find one like it?)
b) I know everyone’s finding it amusing and I’m not saying it isn’t, but I actually feel sorry for him and I agree that if you’re a writer, it can be painful to let something go that you put so much work into. Yes, he’s gone overboard with this entry and yes, season 2 of the show was a complete mess IMO but I’ve realized today how much it must really suck to be a tv writer. I’ve always thought that I would LOVE to do it, be my dream job, getting paid to be creative but it really seems like one of the most draining and unstable jobs there is, with so many people breathing down your neck and all too eager to pull the plug on you at the slightest sign of a problem.
c) I’m wondering just how many of the season 2 problems, if any, could be attributed to the network’s interference. I’d be willing to wager that the whole give-John-a-girlfriend [who the fans couldn't stand and thought was a pointless addition to the story] wasn’t Friedman’s idea at all but Fox’s in an attempt to try to pull in the teenybopper audience.
