burn-notice-0122

USA Network had a strong Thursday night, with the season premiere of Burn Notice taking the top spot with 5.992 million viewers and the debut of Royal Pains was the third most-watched show of the week with 5.567 million.  Jon & Kate Plus 8 reeled in 5.946 million to take the no. 2 spot.  Another new episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 last Monday (actually the first one to air, at 9p) averaged 5.468 million.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Racing on TNT grabbed the fourth spot with  5.48 million  and the post game coverage of the race with 5.349 million took the sixth spot.   WWE Raw took the seventh and eighth spots with 5.052 million and 4.530 million respectively.

An NHL Stanley Cup Final game made the top ten at number nine with 3.448.   Not huge numbers perhaps, but record breaking numbers, at least for the Comcast owned Versus network for an NHL contest.

(the default sorting of the way I receive the cable information is sorted by P2+ coverage rating.  Normally, I re-sort first to correct that, and it typically doesn't make a difference regardless, except when a network with low coverage (relative to other nets on the list) comes into play.  This time it made a difference and as it was, the only Penguins making it into the top twenty were the Penguins of Madagascar.  Sorry about that!

Disney's Hannah Montanna took the 9th spot  with 4.182 million and SpongeBob absorbed the tenth spot with 4.167.

In Plain Sight dipped to 3.73 million, under performing Law & Order: Criminal Intent's 4.012 million and dropping out of the top twenty.  Although just barely, at #21 in viewers.  Some of that was because of the season premiere of Army Wives (also at 10pm on Sunday) which pulled in 3.476 million.

  1. Number Cruncher

Are you guys taking Twitter requests this week?

  2. Patricia Berlet

Where did In Plain Sight come in this week?

  3. @Number Cruncher: we’re going to be experimenting with a few things, but yeah, I’ll continue to take requests on Twitter (one show per person, please, and as usual, we haven’t seen any of the premium cable numbers, sorry).

@Patricia — ooops! I left out a paragraph I meant to include (and have now inserted) that addresses In Plain Sight. See above, it dropped to #21.

  4. OpeningDayGuy09

You go NHL with your badself. Its so odd to see the NHL in the TOP 20 but its a growing sport right now.

  5. Dario

Nice to see Law & Order : CI abova 4 mil. :)
Robert, is LO : CI renewed?

  6. Dario

Robert, in the title it says “NBA Playoffs”…fix it…

  7. Dario

!!! MTV awards?? this was last week’s title…

  8. calm down already! It’s fixed (but thanks for alerting me, I admit it was pretty glaring!). I do not know Law & Order: CI’s renewal status and whether it has already been renewed beyond this season. Perhaps someone in the know will chime in.

  9. rheffern

I follow you on Twitter…I’ll leave my request here..I’m curious as to how Letterman did on Monday night with Howard Stern against Conan?
    Thanks,
    I enjoy your columns immensely!

  10. rheffern, I did a post re: conan vs dave about 1 minute before your comment (Conan won, but barely).

  11. rheffern

WOW, any chance those numbers change later on? I was thinking Conan would’ve had his lowest to date.

    thanks, rod

  12. dogone

greek wow didn’t kyle xy have 3 times those ratings?

  13. smalltownmama

Come on guys quit watching the stupid show called Jon and Kate Plus 8. This is not television we want America to be viewing and should not have same high amount of viewers as some of these outstanding shows!
These pseudo-celebrities need to fade into the woodwork and let their children have peace and safety they deserve not bigger and bigger every week. The train is at the end of the tracks and these kids are the carnage we are seeing.

  14. @rheffern not the proper thread to discuss, so if you want to continue, find a Conan post, but yes, those #s are preliminary and subject to change. But it WAS the lowest of the six Conan shows so far.

  15. Uglyboy

But that Greek’s episode was #1 on iTunes for 3 days (which is surprising for an ABC Family show)

@ Dogone > Kyle’s last episodes have kind of the same amount of viewers I guess

    (sorry for my english)

  16. Lori

ABC Family couldn’t manage their way out of a paper bag.

  17. Jenny

    How did JONAS do?

  18. Matt

Why is Greek still on while Kyle XY got the axe? Lame!

  19. pberlet

How can NHL come in @ #9 with 3.448 million when there are others below it with higher viewer numbers?

  20. yikes. Complete sorting meltdown, pberlet! You are indeed correct. I will fix.
