Its to be expected that Conan will crush Dave in the coveted 18-49 or 18-34 ratings, this guy is immensely popular with the high school college kids (like myself) His only road block is Colbert who is equally as popular in the demo and will cut in Conan's. Conan and NBC know older people will not like his style (example: if you saw his skit a couple days ago when he dressed like older man screening himself with older people)but they don't care.

No offense to Dave lovers or Conan haters but NBC knows what their doing here unlike the rest of their programming, they get Jay's older audience at 9 (central) and Conan's younger audience + jays leftovers at 10:30.

I think these numbers are great for Conan. He is bringing the younger crowd from Late Night and he will pick up some of Jay's old viewers. He is definitely someone thats needs time to grow on you. This week in total viewers he won Monday, lost Tuesday and won Wednesday so I think it is pretty safe to say he is ahead in the important 18-49 demo. Hopefully his ratings are able to stabilize in the current range and eventually grow. I would not be surprised if they drop a little more, but I think he is safe job security wise for quite some time.

Dennis - There are no 2nd week Demos there - how do you know he's "beating the hell out of letterman in the demos in his 2nd week"? This week Letterman has the overall lead - thats all we know so far

What's funny is watching the wingnuts trying to pick a horse in this race, lol. They don't like Letterman, because of his political views.....yet if they hope NBC wins, they're hoping for the success of the network responsible for something else they despise, MSNBC.

It's a can't-win situation for them : )

He's beating the hell out of letterman in the demos, even in his 2nd week. Hardly a "failure"...

Very true, Mark. The first week of a new talk show host, they're going to get big numbers, and then they settle down to a more realistic level.

Conan's ratings have already started to drop significantly in the 2nd week, but those demo numbers for Week 1 are very impressive. I can definitely see a scenario where he regularly ties Letterman in the overnights, but easily wins the demos, especially the 18-34's. It wouldn't surprise me if he even tops Leno's demo numbers, despite coming up short in overall viewership.
