Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

So You Think You Can Dance had some great dancing last night and we got reacquainted with some of the dancers who were not featured as much in the previous shows. Unfortunately when the dancing is great Mary screams a lot but I guess that is one of the reasons people tune in.

  2. David4

Yeah the dancing was stunningly great last night.

i really have no clue who should go.

  3. Ndolger

Look at Wipeout go! It increased its demo every half-hour over two hours. It has such great word of mouth potential with all the crazy stuff that happens. Not to mention John Henson is just awesome – liked him since his Talk Soup days; commentary is just great. Glad to see they’re doing some new things in season 2 too.

It’s a shame this is going to get cancelled once someone actually dies or gets seriously hurt. Great summer show though. Next to Hell’s Kitchen this is the only “reality” show I’ve ever enjoyed.

  4. Chief

I wonder if NBC is happy with those Celebrity numbers. I have a feeling the numbers will go even lower with Holly Montag replacing her more well-known sister and Spencer Pratt.

  5. Alex

I’m growing increasingly interested in what So You Think You Can Dance and whether it can continue to pull those 18-34′s, which are really pretty fantastic. You also have to wonder how long it is before ABC consider moving Wipeout to the fall/winter schedule, especially given how everything else on their schedule is bombing right now.

And its really quite sad that The Unusuals can’t win even against all repeat competition and a lead-in that was more than a point bigger than everything else’s lead-in.

  6. John

None of these shows broke 10 million viewers? Seems to be a trend this summer…

  7. So Cal

Unusuals did alot better with Wipeout as a lead in as opposed to The Goode Family or Surviving Subrbia

  8. Jon K

Yeah, but it still barely beat a Law & Order rerun.

  9. ken

And it’s numbers fell by 20% over the hour, this follows what I did, I only watched the first half hour then decided to wash the dishes (not a compliment to the show).

  10. Visan

SYTYCD is a great Summertime show! Good dancing! Mary Murphy’s screaming bugs the hell outta me, but her insight, when she’s not blabbing about the “hot tamale train,” is on point! Can’t stand Nigel or his blindingly white Hollywood capped teeth!

  11. jay

Whatever Wipeout is – I assume its a reality/gameshow, it is standing toe to toe with the 18-49 SYTYCD ratings. Looks like a summer hit for ABC. As per the recent discussions about reality TV, it clearly is kicking the stuffing out of almost all the pricey scripted shows on the nets, at least in the 18-49 category.

  12. dave

wipeout is fun and all, but doesn’t it feel like it should be on cable? Ah well, its a hit so who am i to argue?

  13. ken

Although I like wipeout, I have to question its ability to hold its audience over a long time, granted America’s funniest home videos lasted years on the strenght of guys getting hit in the crotch.

  14. Christopher

i just got Showtime and whaced Nurse Jackie and i liked it better than reatilty crap

  15. big ballz

WIPEOUT RULES!!!! i too am also wondering if abc will decide to put it on the fall/winter sched. they should do a c or d-list wipeout, i’d love to see some ov those annoying people faceplant tha big ballz and get whacked by tha sucker punch!! VIVA LAS PELOTAS GRANDES!!!

  16. MIke the Canadian

Tv is dead to me this summer except for Burn Notice.

  17. David R

SYTYCD was great last night. This is the first year its held my attention this long. I have always like it, just always would forget it was on. Not doing tha this year!

  18. domajoho

I was all ready to watch SYTYCD but then a terrible storm decided to make an appearance. So when the satellite was up all we got was storm coverage. I only got to see the last 2 dances. *sigh*

But I love the show, even with Mary’s screaming.

  19. Timmy

Wipeout is the best show on the summer TV Sked. I too would like to see a celeb wipeout, what would be quite funny!!

It seems as though Wednesday night overall among the big 4 is doing the best compared to regular season numbers.

FOX: Dance is doing better in both demos than what FOX was getting last Fall, and while it is certainly no American Idol, they are great for summer numbers.

ABC: Wipeout is stronger (vastly) in both demos than anything that ABC has had on Wednesdays all season except for Lost. And that second hour of Wipeout (in Lost’s slot) did 70% of Lost’s numbers… during summer.

NBC: As mediocre as I’m A Celebrity’s ratings have become, it is still on par with the mostly-more-expensive fare that aired here during the regular season (Knight Rider, Chopping Block, Life, and various L&O repeats). L&O doesn’t compare particularly well at 10pm since its repeats now, but the night as a whole is steady vs regular season.

CBS: As the only net that is simply rerunning their exact regular season schedule, CBS is not surprisingly feeling the biggest summer hit on Wednesdays. That being said, considering they are cheap reruns, the results are certainly not horrible (well… that comedy block actually… ;) )
