WINS THE WEEK BY A HUGE 2.028 MILLION LEAD OVER ABC
Season-to-date, "Nightly" is the Only Evening Newscast to Increase in Total Viewers and Rating A25-54
NEW YORK – June 16, 2009 – According to Nielsen Media Research data, "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of June 8-14, 2009. During the week, the Williams-led newscast was 8.271 million total viewers, a giant 2.028 million more than ABC "World News'" 6.243 million – ABC's lowest total viewer delivery ever, and +2.869 million more than CBS "Evening News'" 5.402 million. Excluding the Olympics, the week marks "Nightly's" best total viewer advantage over "World News" since the week of November 29, 2004. Season-to-date, "Nightly" is the only evening newscast to increase in total viewers and tops "World News" by +783,000 viewers.
Please note both "Nightly News" and ABC "World News" are based on three-day averages due to the NHL Stanley Cup Finals and NBA Finals, respectively.
"Nightly" has won for 35 consecutive weeks in total viewers, and for 29 straight weeks in A25-54.
Among the key demographic adults 25-54, "Nightly News" delivered a 1.9, ahead of ABC's 1.3 rating and CBS' 1.2 rating. "Nightly" led "World News" by an enormous +735K A25-54 viewers for the week – its best advantage over since the week of November 24, 2004 (excluding the Olympics). Season-to-date, Nightly is the only evening newscast to increase in rating A25-54 and leads World News by +308,000 A25-54 viewers.
In homes, "Nightly News" won by increasing to a 5.5 rating and a 12 share. In second place ABC drew a 4.3/9, and CBS posted a 3.7/8.
