The only show on NBC that is worth watching is Chuck. So what if CBS does spin offs, IT WORKS, if it didnt why would their spin offs be doing as well as they do? Maybe NBC should try something they arent used to and actually do something that works for other networks.

I seen the entire season of Merlin already (have family in the UK) and it is NOT a terrible show at all, it’s quite good, which BBC shows usually are. It’s very strongly reminscient of Smallville but it’s definitely a very good and entertaining show, though not their best. It reminded me of Sam Raimi’s Hercules and Xena series, though with much better production values. You’ll probably really enjoy it if you like scifi and fantasy.

FOX didn’t get rid of the 10:00 hour, they never had it to begin with. FOX started as a “mini-net” similar to what the WB and UPN were and the CW is now.

“I survived a japanese game show” did ok especially as it was brought in early to rescue the slot. Its the best show on TV right now, fresh and so much fun!

merlin was made by BBC and i do agree that it will most likley do terrible like the listener (which was canadian but i think universal helped kinda like fox with mental) but at least they are trying different things unlike the eye network, making an ER spin off would be the exact same thing that cbs does with crap like CSI NY and Miami NCIS LA
NBC has some of the greatest shows on [network] television right now like the office, 30 rock, chuck and the biggest loser and a lot of people keep complaining about leno at 10, at least its better than just getting rid of the whole hour like fox did not to long ago
NBC has made shows that are dumb (i am celeb makes the number one spot for sure) but so has every other network
Fox has had a million shows that have been canceled within two episodes
CBS never tries anything but crime shows and the one show they had this year that wasn’t one (ex list) just looked terrible
ABC had a bunch of new shows that were absolute crap for the spring season (bob sagot)
to be honest i think there’s very little hope for network television today
people tend to stick with television shows that run along the same plot lines and seem that they were thought of in five minutes (grey’s anatomy, csi) and whenever someone tries something a little different people just shoot it down

Due to a complete lack of interest I didn’t watch any of these shows, but the strong performance of So You Think You Can Dance does give me optimism for how it will perform in the fall as a lead-in to Glee.

To anyone who is asking…”Why does everyone hate NBC?” I have what I think is a fair answer.

Its because that network keeps putting on shows that are crap. That may be blunt, but true. I keep seeing previews for their New show “Merlin” and all I can think is well that should be fun to see…not!! The only fun thing to been seen is how terrible the ratings are for it the next day. NBC needs to just wipe their slate clean and start over. Try putting something on air that doesnt look like it was filmed in somebody’s backyard.

At this point they would be better off starting a spin-off of ER…something like ER: New York, or ER: Los Angeles. At least that show was still giving decent numbers.

If i was running NBC, i just run movies or filler of dateline NBC during the summer. shows like i’m a celebrity just make my skin crawl. people love stories about real life crime. heck If i was running NBC make a deal with A&E or Tru TV in about running some of their most popular shows like the Repo or Cold Case Files. A lot better than I’m a Celebrity.

Yes, but at least Fox and CBS have a stable schedule, I as an average viewer have no idea what they are going to aire from week to week, yes Goode Family and Surviving S. are bleeding viewers, but why have they aired in a different time slot every week since they came on…ABC is not going to be the #1 destination for the summer so why not just go with a schedule w/ some sort of flow(I forgot my girlfriend has me playing w/her converter box daily cause, ABC has Castle back on Sat. and the Celebrity Dance show is coming back at some point)…NBC on the other hand has an easy to follow schedule IACGMOOH 24/7 but I hate that show.

No matter what you want to say CBS has the best primetime schedule of all the nets week after week.(yes it is crime Drama heavy and I forgot about Big Brother)(OKin the fall not Summer)followed closely by Fox(my opinion would change but I am that one person that does not whatch Idle)(like it better than Brother though)

Wipeout needs to be on at 9 ET its to early for summer to be on at 8. ABC needs to air a retun at 8. I think so anyway.

RayJay, Reality shows always outnumber scripted shows in the summer. They’re cheaper, so the nets can accept lower ratings for them. For the most part you don’t have to watch every episode or really pay attention to enjoy them, which is good during the summer when people are more likely to miss shows for vacations, BBQs, and other outdoor activities.

As for why ratings are down. It’s because of cable. People watch more TV now than ever, but with hundreds of channels to choose from, broadcast is attracting fewer and fewer of them. Broadcast nets are still the biggest thing out there (with the exception of sports, no cable show can get the ratings of Grey’s or CSI), but with so many cable nets, they simply can’t get the same numbers they could when most people had only 5 or 6 options.

Serves ABC right for two reasons. Firstly, they should have renewed The Mole and not Japanese Game Show and Newlyweds. Screw you ABC for canceling The Mole for the second time. And secondly they should have left Japanese Game Show as a July debut, now it’ll be over long before the summer is over.

People on SYTYCD and Idol fall on their faces? When? I would say Wipeout and I Survived… does a much better job in that department.

But let’s face it, Reality is ruling right now. How many reality shows were shown on Tuesday? 5! (4 different reality shows were shown at 8 alone).

You can really say all you want on how people are mindless/brainless, but people are watching. Reality has a great way to show real human emotions and people are interested in it. I’m not sure it’ll die, but I’m sure it’ll decrease in viewers.

On another note, why do you think there are less and less viewers that are watching TV? I remember everything being so competitive a few years ago with a lot of viewers. To be a hit show required tons of more viewers than it does today.

domajoho, it’s not clear how many episodes had aired before ABC decided to cancel it (there was no announcement), but the show had dreadful ratings right from the start. As for other networks being more patient, I think that one’s perspective has a powerful impact on that assessment.

Considering Wipeout is a rip-off of japanese shows, I’m pretty sure “I survived a Japanese Game Show” is compatible with it ^^.
I know it’s summer but I kinda love those CW’s numbers . I doubt NBC could go that low but well, we never know.

I hate FOX. I hate ABC. I hate CBS. I hate…leave NBC alone. They are doing just fine right now. It is summer and these numbers are expected. Americans are just drawn to silly shows like SYTYCD because they like watching people fall flat on their faces. Why do you think Idol does so well. Just wait, NBC will regain their #1 spot in the ratings game soon. Remember, this was the network that brought us Friends, Frasier, Will & Grace, Homicide and ER! The ratings will climb and NBC will be back on top.

I didn’t think there was the slimmest chance that Jap Game Show would be back.

I’m surprised to see the ratings dip a bit as So You Think You Can Dance Get’s to the Meet of the Show. More people watched the formation of the top twenty that are actually watching the top 20. At least it’s not like American Idol that takes about three months to get to the actual competition.

Bill, that’s true. I imagine LOST will be on @ 10 next year since every show launched after it (including The Unusuals, which starred Harold Perrineau from LOST) has been doomed. I’m still shocked Japanese Game Show’s did so poorly. No matter how poorly it performs in subsequent original airings, I’m sure it can’t do as badly as The Goode Family.

ABCHasProblems, you’re drawing some bad cause and effect conclusions. ABC “promotes the heck” out of all its new shows. It’s just that they have had *very* limited success with their new shows over the last 2 seasons. They’re not failing because they’re promoted, but because few of ABC’s new shows have caught on with viewers.

It seems like everytime ABC promotes the heck out of a show (Pushing Daisies, The Goode Family, Japanese Game Show), that show ends up with low ratings. I would think that Japanese Game Show would be compatible with Wipeout, but I guess that’s not the case this year. The Unusuals was on the wrong network, in my opinion. It would’ve fit on FOX if paired with House or Bones.
