If this isn't a worthwhile query for this topic I don't know what is; but I'll put it in the form of anecdotal evidence: I've asked courteously in Garfields and Applebees and other restaurants with three or four big-screen TV's why every channel is on ESPN. I've been told that those two franchises at least have a contract with ESPN and unless the manager deems it an emergency they will not turn the channel. ( That's a slight exaggeration, but ... ) My question is: if this is true, how can they possibly use that for Nielsen purposes? In a way its unfair to ESPN, because when guys are gathered together they often opt for ESPN by democratic vote. I also assume Nielsen has a way to moniter college dorm viewing, but again, what about the dorm lobbeys, where most people hang out to watch TV anyway?
