A coworker of mine has a button that reads something like this:
"Because that's how we've always done it" is NEVER the correct answer.

It's time Nielsen finally opens their collective minds to such a notion. This is no longer just a matter of sample size, accurate meter technology, and proper calculations. Larger questions about the ratings system itself are starting to appear. How important is tuneaway compared to audience size metrics? What proof does Nielsen have that their demographic breakdowns are meaningful? How often are those breakdowns verified as an accurate, useful representation of the TV audience? Nielsen ratings are a lagging metric (can only tell you what happened after the fact); can set top box data provide data that's more of a leading metric (easier to notice trends, more predictive)?

No...you have to cut off the head, impale the heart with a wooden stake and dissolve the body in Thermite plasma to kill Nielsen.
