Michael Jackson, R.I.P.

Michael Jackson is dead at age 50.

I feel like I grew up with the Jacksons, Michael was only about a year older than I am.

With the changed realities of both the music and television worlds over the last generation, there's no doubt that the audience of 50+ million that watched the 1984 Grammy Awards, the year Jackson won a record 8 Grammys, will never be equaled.

Sorry, no more comments.

so you make a post about MJ, but not Ferrah Fawcett? ..she was a bigger tv icon than him.. by far..

^ Hah yeah I was kinda thinking the same thing, but that’s ok…look, Bill even put in a ratings reference…he tried!!

  5. Liban A

Yeah But Farrah was no MJ.

    Man, he’ll be missed!

  6. Lisa

Yeah, Farrah Fawcett certainly deserves a special post if Michael Jackson does.

Two major deaths in one day, plus Ed McMahon just the other day. That’s rough.

Yea farah did die today. But you have to realize everyone can not get a a special post. Michael Jackson is probably the most well known celebrity in the world. And the death of th king of pop definitely deserves a post. And donu be ignorant and post cnild molester commments. Hav som respect!
    RIP MJ

  8. My suspicion about the charges against Jackson has always been that the charges were manufactured – or at least brought up publicly – because he signed a $500 million contract with Sony instead of an American company. So the US music industry wanted him taken down a peg.

Might be conspiracy theory, but it makes sense to me. Not that he wasn’t a weirdo, but if I remember correctly, they never proved zip.

Well, MJ himself was a pretty major TV star. I remember the 30th anniversary concert special getting over 25 million viewers, a huge number for a concert special. And of course the infamous ABC Primetime special got over 27 million, beating out NBC and CBS Thursdays when both of those networks averaged over 20 million viewers on the night. He was an unequaled media star.

As much as people have said unflattering things about Michael Jackson, the scope and magnitude of this tradegy will be far reaching. Many have tried to tarnish his image and thank God they failed. Michael was and is Loved and he will live on thru his music and his 3 children. Michael Jackson R. I. P.

I am still shocked and so sad of the passing of Michael Jackson. What an icon. He will be remembered forever. I am still watching and switching channels on my television and there are tons of networks having coverage of his death and radio stations playing only his music. I think Michael is an extraordinarily amazing person and will be sadly missed. RIP Michael Jackson: (1958-2009)

i was walking to my house wit my friends and one of my friends went inside and came running out and yelled “Michael Jackson is dead!” and we all ran inside and turned on MSNBC and CNN while we played beat it on the computer
    sad day

Life should not be measured by ratings.

R.I.P. to Ms. Fawcett. She fought a brave battle. One that nobody should have to endure. Think of the pain…not your ideals of advertising dollars for once. I had a friend who suffered from cancer. I never got to say good-bye.

  14. JayDub

why are people arguing about who is a bigger star?! Two icons died today.

  15. Hot Pocket

Both were two of the biggest stars that I could think of and they were well-known by everybody who was around during their peak periods. So rest in peace my fair lady and gentlemen.

  16. ace

That’s ashame. He had some good music. More and more people are dying young.

May Michael Jackson rest in peace despite some of the negative things said about him.

  17. Happy Child

I for one am glad he is gone. He was a sick and twisted pervert, and I now feel safer that that molester will never have the chance to hurt an innocent child ever again. Now if the rest would just follow suit, the world would become such a better place!

  18. Lanie Grace

It doesn’t matter if you love him or hate him, there is no denying Michael Jackson was the Entertainer of the World and a Superstar in every corner.

While Ms. Fawcett’s death is truly trajic, Michael Jackson eclipsed her a hundred times over even in the peak of her career. He remained a worldwide superstar till his death. I have never had to explain to anyone from anywhere who Michael Jackson was but I have had to explain several times today to people, right here in the USA exactly who and when MS. Fawcett was a star.

Michael Jackson was an incredible artist with remarkable skills and talent. Farrah Fawcett was certainly very beautiful.

Rest in Peace Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett.

Not exactly my words of choice, but conveys my exact sentiment!

R.I.P. – Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett.

Although I agree with some of the posters that Fawcett deserves an obituary on thsi website, I mean she was a TV icon herself, and that’s what this website is all about right? TV?
