  1. Shem

People are already leaving the Young and the Restless. it is getting too controversial with the Adam/Rafe storyline. it did not even get over 5 million; not even one day! Good for B&B

  2. Dean

I will be watching Y&R BECAUSE of the Adam/Rafe storyline.

  3. Shem

    Okay. That’s nice.

  4. William

Maybe Obama will step in and give soaps a bailout. . . I mean the guy is just handing money out to companies in worse situations why not turn around they Daytime game while he is at it.

Sad to see so many shows all at an alltime low. But I think that a lot of the problems are easy to spot

GH – Nu Micheal & Christina are just awful and we already did the Jason Morgan story
Y&R – People have just lost interest
DAYS – The same characters have the same conversations 3 out of 5 days per week
GL – Why watch the titanic go down (even though the show is great)
ATWT – Not sure about that one
AMC & OLTL & B&B – same problems as with Y&R, the same thing year in and year out

  5. Jrock

I bet Soapnet takes a big chunk of the numbers on these soaps now. Would love to see the numbers that Soapnet gets for some of these shows. I bet there are alot of people who just catch these shows at night on Soapnet anymore.

  6. Tyler

poor days! they were so close to becoming number 2, but it didnt happen! and GH has gotten so boring! we need a new writer!!!!!

  7. Doug

Jrock, not as many viewers as you may think. This website posts the press releases on occasion, and the top rated series on Soap is OLTL, and it gets around 400,000 viewers. If you add the growth on Soap with the decline on ABC, numbers are just about even from a year ago.

Household numbers are also a bit misleading for the soaps because the number of HHs in the US keeps growing, and soap viewership does not. OLTL, for instance, is down around 4% y/y in viewers, but 15% in households.

Mind you, around 10 years ago, most soaps were in the high 3′s for ratings, so even that explanation doesn’t begin to cover half of the decline.

  8. MissoldY&R

I for one am glad to see the ratings drop for Y & R because I hate the way the writers are ruining this show and it is not just the Adam/Ashley/Victor storyline but basically all of them. I think the fans of this show loved that the storylines have always been realistic and not too far fetched. Lately the show has taken a new direction and I along with a number of other fans HATE it. So I hope the writers take notice.

  9. Catherine

On GH those new kids ARE just dreadful, but I am not sure we can fault the acting. They might be better if the story wasn’t so stupid and awful. Bratty teens…gosh we get that every summer. General Hospital used to be lucky in the casting of kids. And oh joy, they have merged the Faux Emily/Ethan stories, the two stories that are particularly awful. It is so so forced. They need new writers who know the history of the show.

  10. Tyler

Catherine, lets start a protest :) we wont watch GH untill that horrbile guza is fired and a new writer comes onto the scene!

  11. michael

Shem, just shut up! The Rafe/Adam storyline JUST STARTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually think you will see the ratings rise. The problem is that the show just simply sucks anymore. I have watched this show with my mom since I was a child. I honestly don’t like most of the people on the show anymore.

And if you are going to bring back characters, you don’t bring back Nina. She is a bitch on the show, and even nastier in person. Yes, I met her ON THE SET and she is a total bitch. Ask her about how she feels about someone who lives in West Hollywood. Even my mom was disgusted when she met her.

If they want to bring fans back, they need to bring back characters like Drucilla!

  12. TomSD

B&B has become so repetative. It’s like the 15th time we have a Ridge/Brook/Taylor story line. Just kill Taylor again. And the Bridget/Nick story was not interesting the first time.
They need to bring Amber back to couse some trouble with Rick.

  13. Shem

I agree with TomSD they should send Amber back to B&B along with Deacon (coming in July, maybe to boost ratings) and to Micheal, why are you attacking the actress personally? I think she is great, I was sad when she left in 2001 and was elated when she returned. I’ve been watching soaps since i started to walk so don’t tell me to shut up, i know what I’m talking about. I just want to see Y&R do well and not go down like Passions.

  14. ohiogirl

Days has made strides in recent months. The baby Grace storyline has been well acted. Hopefully the writers will stay on track with the more realistic storylines, and leave the over the top ‘godfather’ agendas behind, and give us power families in the Dimera and Kiriakis households that have more depth and fine storytelling, and leave the ‘cartoon’ characterizations of Stephano and others in the past. Joseph Mascola is capable of much more than we have seen. Josh Taylor needs to be put to use. Alison Sweeney and James Scott could act the phone book. Y&R could see Days knocking on the door, if days writers are willing to put in the quality writing.

  15. Jumpinat1254

Micheal is being ridiculous. Tricia Cast as Nina is the best thing that has happened on this show in a long while. I’m glad she’s back. The Rafe/Adam story is is utterly ridiculous and out of left field. In fact, the whole Adam gaslighting Ashley story is ridiculous. Y&R has gone way down in storytelling. I’d bet Bill Bell is turning over in his grave.
