So You Think You Can Dance? lead Fox to a win averaging a 2.8 rating in the adults 18-49 demo for the night, but ABC's Wipeout and NBC's America's Got Talent provided tough competition in both of its hours. The premiere numbers for NBC's The Philanthropist were fair.
So You Think You Can Dance? and Wipeout tied for the 8pm hour in the 18-49 demo. That's an improvement of 0.3 demo ratings points for Wipeout from last Wednesday. The finale of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! was able to generate only a 1.5 demo as viewers had long ago gotten out of there.
In the first head to head battle of summer unscripted heavyweights, America's Got Talent edged So You Think You Can Dance? at 9pm in the 18-49 demo, while Dance won in the 18-34 demo. Against the heightened competition, I Survived A Japanese Gameshow proved to be the weakling, falling over 25% in the 18-49 demo from last week to its lowest rating ever.
The premiere of NBC's The Philanthropist at 10pm won the hour and averaged a reasonable (considering circumstances) 2.0 in the adults 18-49 demo. However its half hourly demo ratings were potentially troublesome 2.1 and 1.8. Next week's results will be telling. ABC's Primetime: Questions for the President managed but a 1.2 demo rating.

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Decent beginning for The Philanthropist. It was the only new, original scripted programming I’ve enjoyed so far this summer from any of the broadcast networks. I’m sure it too will drop below that 2.0 next week, but I’m also sure we’ll see ads declaring it the new breakout hit of the summer!!!
I know its summer, but the numbers for both SYTYCD and AGT indicate reality shows have not lost their momentum. And if anyone can spin ABC’s Obama special as a victory over the Philanthropist, you should be in the White House press corps or working for CNN, or ABC for that matter.
I would love to see AGT be picked up in the fall and compete directly against SYTYCD. Philanthropist was surprisingly good and eventhough it may never get picked up, I can see it having a very loyal following. But I am surprised that ABC’s special about the president did so poorly – over kill I guess.
Lol @ ABC’s health care propaganda epic fail.
The Philanthropist was great last night! America’s got talent did well…
So, Barak Hussein Obama is not as popular as the New Adventures of Old Christine, and less than half as popular as America’s Got Talent.
How fitting.
Sorry to hear I Survived A Japanese Gameshow is crashing. I love that show.
But then, I want to see ABC (All Barak Channel) burn and die. They deserve no less for turning (even more) into a mouthpiece for Obama.
Real journalism is dead.
To HogWash: In response to your comment about the ABC special on the President, Obama is on TV way too often, and the ratings are finally starting to show that people have had enough.
Folks, lets keep politics out of these comments or I will either begin deleting overtly political comments or close the comment thread entirely, and I don’t want to do either.
The CW seems to be doing well with all its re-runs. Except for Hitched or Ditched because that show sucks!
Looks like someone is an Obama fan that doesn’t like people criticizing his president. Why does the star of the “Philanthropist” get last billing in the commercials by the way?
CP, probably because he’s the least famous. I know who Jesse L. Martin and Neve Cambell are, but I’ve never heard of the star’s name before.
Anyway, I thought The Philanthropist was good, and I’m glad to see it get good ratings. My only complaint was that the main character said he made love with that black woman but they didn’t show it. NBC isn’t going to get out of last place if they skip sex scenes like that.
Why’d NBC wait until summer to premiere the Philanthropist, anyway? It was certainly better than all the crap they premiered in the fall.
CP — Actually, they delete all political comments period. Refreshing actually. (and I agree with Steve from WI).
CP – shut up!
Iran is trying hard to “delete” all political comments too.
Rob, and others, if folks want to make political comments they have plenty of other places to make them. This site is about TV numbers.
guys pls stop with all the poltocal comments cause were supposed to be commenting on the show. Any way my schedule was at 8 iacgmpoh at 9 agt anne at 10 philantrppist was actually very good.

Congrats to NBC for a good night
ROTFL! cant you people just admit that nbc has a hit on their hands? I dont remember chuck rarely getting those kinds of ratings……
