LOS ANGELES, June 30, 2009 FX, home to critically acclaimed and award-winning original series, has set its fall schedule with the return of three of its hit original series kicking off with the sophomore season of the drama Sons Of Anarchy on September 8, followed by the comedy It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia on September 17, and season six of nip/tuck which begins this October. FX also has plans to launch a new original comedy series this fall to pair with It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

In addition to the return of original series, this fall the network features a slate of blockbuster feature film premieres including Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four & The Silver Surfer, Spiderman 3, and Live Free or Die Hard.

Sons Of Anarchy returns for its second season (13 episodes) on a new night, Tuesday, beginning September 8 at 10 PM ET/PT. Starring Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal and Ron Perlman, Sons is an adrenalized drama with darkly comedic undertones that explores the notorious outlaw motorcycle club's (SAMCRO) desire to protect its livelihood and the town of Charming, Calif. from outside influences. New guest stars this season include Adam Arkin and Henry Rollins. The first season of Sons Of Anarchy averaged 1.2 million Men 18-34 demo on a weekly cumulative basis, making it the #1 scripted show in basic cable in that demo and its cume of 1.9 million Adults 18-34 ranked #3.

The fifth season of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (12 episodes) will run Thursdays at 10 PM ET/PT for crude, controversial, outlandish, and downright hilarious comedy starting on September 17. Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito star as the self-centered owners of Paddy's Pub in Philadelphia who will do just about anything, no matter how reprehensible, in attempt to better their own situation. The fourth season of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia was #1 in both M18-34 (1.1 million) and A18-34 (1.8 million) on a weekly cumulative average for all live-action scripted comedies in basic cable.

nip/tuck will return for its sixth and penultimate season in October and will consist of 10 new episodes. Starring Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon as Los Angeles plastic surgeons, the new season will include guest stars Vanessa Redgrave, Rose McGowan, Mario Lopez, Barry Bostwick and Gilles Marini. nip/tuck's 5th season was FX's highest-rated original series with an average weekly audience of 5.1 million A18-49 and 6.5 million total viewers.

How absurd is it that I was looking forward to this announcement, to see if I actually had something (SoA) to watch on Tuesdays. I hate 2009′s Double Tuesdays already.

Mildly surprised there is no mention of what follows Sunny on Thursdays. Or are they still deciding between which new comedy show to air after?

  2. craigward

I know Adam Reed and Matt Thompson of Sealab and Frisky Dingo fame are working on a pilot for FX. Frisky Dingo is one of the funniest series ever and I’m eager for more from them.

Hopefully that is the show they are talking about.

  3. T

anyone know when Damages season 3 is gonna be?

  4. T, I’m guessing it will be similar to the January-April pattern used for season two.

  5. Jon

I’m guessing Nip/Tuck will be Wednesday since Monday is DVD on TV and they don’t show originals on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.

FX do need to find some new shows with Nip/Tuck ending and Rescue Me and Damages likely to end soon.

  6. Visan

Good to know about SoA! Wonderful show!

  7. Dan

Jon after its third season, I’m pretty sure FX wouldnt be quick to axe Damages, and even though its getting older Rescue Me looks to have a few more seasons left. The problem with FX is that they dont have any high rated series so after dumping Dirt and The Riches last year, they still had the lower rated Damages and Sons of Anarchy as well as veterans Nip/Tuck and Rescue Me. They also have three more seasons of It’s Always Sunny.

  8. Christopher

i was wordering when Sons of Anarchoy is coming back Tuesday in the fall are going to be jamed for me

  9. AZTop

Robert: Does that mean Damages has been renewed for season 3? I don’t remember seeing an announcement. The numbers certainly were not good.

  10. Jon

I do wonder how long FX can keep Damages because I cam imagine with the cast it has with Glenn Close and Rose Bryne that it is expensive to produce and under 1m ratings last season.

I think FX has been outshoned by AMC and Showtime and with HBO making a comeback, they need to start looking at projects that can put them back on the map like The Shield did in 2002 and have a mix of edgy but popular dramas and edgy and acclaimed dramas. They seem more focused on getting blockbuster films for their schedules which are their bread and butter.

  11. AZTop: Damages was renewed for both its 2nd and 3rd season at the same time. FX touts (somewhat) the DVR and DVD numbers, but the DVR numbers definitely weren’t that great for S2, and I’m not sure how well S1 of Damages really did DVD wise with Season 1. I am sure it was no True Blood when it comes to DVD sales, but then again, very few TV shows are.

Jon: I’m guessing the third season will be its last, but it’s just a guess.

  12. Ray

Damages is the only show FX has getting hype and Emmy’s, and probably the only Emmy worthy show FX is going to have for a while.

Granted it has a small audience but a profitible one. They probably make all their money back with those cadilac endorsements alone. And I also heard DVD sales were high for season one. It’ll be interesting to how season 2 does.

  13. Rob

Norm Macdonald is working on a pilot for FX. Hopefully thats going to get one the air

  14. Jeff Sorensen

I don’t know why Sunny doesn’t get any nominations. It is hands down one of the best comedies on tv since Arrested Development. It can take the most messed up topics and make them hilarious.

Charlie Day for an Emmy easy.

  15. Evil

Without The Shield the FX shedule looks a bit lonely :(

  16. gustavo

The best show of FX is Rescue Me.Somebody knows how much viewers has this show?.

  17. Eric

    was Testees cancelled?

  18. jay

It’s borderline criminal my cable package doesn’t include F/X, among severel other primo 18-49 channels. I got the chance to see Dirt and Riches at a friend’s house before he had to cancel cable, and saw Anarchy and Philadelphia while in Sante Fe for a month. I think Anarchy has a solid veteran cast – could Perlemen’s movie success and Sagal’s cult status as the Cyclops on Futrama be raising their asking price to the detriment of the show? Should they get some foreign angel to coproduce? – and Philadelphia like Family Guy is an aquired tyaste with potential. I MUCH prefer F/X’s stabs at wildness and irtreverence to the Elvis-on-Velvet approach of TNT’s original programming. Please, Fox Entertainment, shake lose some of the chump change from Idol and support your most creative people!

I think F/x needs a show to replace The Shield right now and i’ve heard of a few pilots that F/x has ordered for 2010 that might do the trick. SOA from what I understand was a solid ratings performer? no? Nip Tuck, Rescue Me and Damages are probably all gone by 2011 so I’m sure F/x is aware that something has to catch on soon. I think they are doing the right thing to not fill up too much of their schedule with originals. it’s a nice mix and I usually enjoy what’s on F/x.

  20. pete5125

Testees was just a Canadan show that F/x got for virtualy nothing, so that they could make Always Sunny new episodes stay on for a couple more weeks, Testees did so bad that they burnt off the last 6 episodes in 3 weeks @ 11PM I assume Canada is not making another season so F/x will air something else, sadly a rerun of ASIP would of got better numbers…but F/x is always trying to get something else launched.

F/x has 4 Dramas: Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, Damages, and The Shields replacement (Son of Arch)
They have 2 Dramas that bombed: DIRT and Riches, I assume F/x will try 2 new shows this year since neither Dirt or Riches did enouth to replace Ni/Tuck

Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck(final Season), Damages(if it does what season 2 did then that will be the last season), and It’s Always Sunny has atleast 1 more season to go give F/x this season and next to produce 2 to 3 hit Dramas…I have confidense in F/x even the shows that didn’t become hits were well made and broke new ground.

I am surprised F/x didn’t let 30 Days come back for another 6 episodes, the show had to cost next to nothing and it was very well done…I hope some other net will give Morgan another chance
