On an Independence Day when the only fireworks were in the sky, 4 Cops repeats gave Fox the best 18-49 demo average. In dueling fireworks "spectaculars" it was Macy's over the Boston Pops.
No surprise, but demo viewers had better things to do than watch new episodes of Kings and Eli Stone.

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

wow, those kings numbers are… whats the word. oh yea, impossibly low.
I think last night’s episode of Kings might have had the lowest ratings of any new episode of a big 4 show.
for a show that’s been canceled, Eli Stone’s 0.6 is pretty respectable considering all the ratings for the night. it was on late enough that its target audience was probably out watching fireworks displays. there’s been a lot on twitter about eli stone. it was poorly promoted by ABC and loyal fans are STILL not aware, or just becoming aware, that the final 4 episodes have been airing over the past 3 weeks with the finale coming in 1 week. Boo ABC – you had a winner but didn’t let it shine.
Samantha Who?, In The Motherhood and even Eli Stone on july 4th.. they are all doing better than better off ted. what is wrong with abc?
djm, Michael, let me be the first to say, It wasn’t promoted enough!
Why doesn’t ABC air anything even slightly patriotic? They should produce a 20/20 special about war veterans or military heroes for next year. Also, I saw a commercial for Wipeout: Couples Edition. This reminds me of the many editions of primetime Millionaire. What are the odds that ABC will air Wipeout: Couples on Wednesdays @ 8:00 and regular Wipeout on Thursdays @ 9:00?
Dear Lord, I just noticed that Joseph is right. Long dead show Eli Stone with no promotion had the same demo and more total viewers than a new Better Off Ted this week.
i just realized something……..nbc almost won the night….then Kings would be on a winning night for NBC haha
Who’s aware BoT is even running now? Pretty much everyone expected them to save the finished episodes for S2. I know I was surprised to see it, and I’m a big fan.
Bill, you can make all the fun you want, the point stands true: Better off Ted wasn’t promoted enough.
Victor, fan paranoia got the better of you, I was talking about Kings!
I’m annoyed by the Eli Stone numbers… particularly because it wasn’t even airing in Philadelphia, where they instead decided to show some concert. And yea, the lack of promotion is what killed the show…
Eli Stone aired in Houston at 12:35 am so the ABC owned-and-operated station here could air local fireworks instead. Is “Kings” the lowest rated nedw primetime show ever to air on NBC in history?
Better Off Ted is up against America’s Got Talent, the #1 show of the summer.
Harper’s Island was great.
why doesnt NBC promote kings. they could win saturday of they just tried
Its has nothing to do with promoting the show, they did that fine before they started airing the show months ago. It didn’t take from the beginning so its not going to take now. Its just a good night for NBC to burn off the rest of the episodes to complete the obligation to the show. Give it a month and Kings won’t even be a memory.
Houston didn’t get to see ABC at all since the local channel aired the local festivities.
I assume some other cities did the same thing to some of the channels.
Mark, note that the way these numbers are measured that the viewing of whatever was on the network affiliates anywhere during these time periods are counted for the shows above. The actual viewing of the individual shows will get sorted out in the final numbers which we usually see on Tuesday, although may be available elsewhere earlier.
So, depending on how popular any local fireworks show was the numbers for the shows above could be either reduced or increased.
FYI, Cleveland’s NBC, WKYC-TV aired Major League Baseball: Oakland at Cleveland. The game and postgame aired from 7-10 PM on Saturday Night.
