NBC Nightly News Wins The Week By A Giant 1.19 Million Lead Over ABC

NEW YORK ? July 7, 2009 ? According to Nielsen Media Research data, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of June 29 – July 3, 2009. During the week, the Williams-led newscast delivered a whopping 8.342 million total viewers, an impressive +1.192 million more than ABC “World News'” 7.150 million, and +2.651 million more than CBS “Evening News'” 5.691 million. Season-to-date, “Nightly” is the only evening newscast to increase in total viewers and tops “World News” by +824,000 viewers.

“Nightly News” is based on a 3-day average (Mon-Wed) while both ABC and CBS are based on a 4-day average (Mon-Thu).

“Nightly” has won for 38 consecutive weeks in total viewers, and for 32 straight weeks in A25-54.

Among the key demographic adults 25-54, “Nightly News” delivered a huge 2.1 rating, way ahead of ABC’s 1.6 rating and CBS’ 1.3 rating. “Nightly” led “World News” by an enormous +603K in the key A25-54 demo for the week. Season-to-date, Nightly leads World News by +332,000 A25-54 viewers.

In homes, “Nightly News” won by increasing to a 5.6 rating and a 12 share. In second place ABC drew a 4.8/11, and CBS posted a 3.9/8.

On its digital platforms, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” continued its strong performance with more than 5.6 million online streams for the week ending July 4, 2009.
