….btw…I have to laugh at all the comparisons of ‘Road trip’ to ‘Amazing Race’. That’s like comparing ‘Sponge Bob’ to ‘Gone With The Wind’…no, wait. ‘Sponge Bob’ is actually funny and, in it’s own off beat way, intelligent.
The production company for Emmy winning ‘Race’ must be insulted with the comparisons. And as far as ‘Treasure Hunt’ goes, that’s what I was hoping to find in ‘Road Trip’… a fun, intelligent, even educational trip across the country, with unexpected turns. That’s a show that needs to return.

My family tuned in for ‘The Great American Road Trip’. It didn’t take long for us to look for an exit on that highway. It’s not thay we’re too highbrow. We were looking for some summer fluff to watch for a little fun. This show was not fun. I truly think the concept was good. Everyone thinks of tossing their cares aside and taking to the road to see where it will take them from time to time. Unfortunately, the nessecary evils to convey this good time were cast aside…such as editing, casting, camerawork, and an inventive and interesting plan as to where this road should take the travelers…( no disrespect to St Louis, but tumbling on a grassy knoll for 20 minutes rather than focusing on the Arc, or restaurants, or wellknown landmarks, tells me the budget could only support getting on and off the bus and renting a giant bubble). I’m sure if the writers had contacted the Tourism Board of St.Louis, they could have steered them to some good times, perhaps even grattis. That’s when we tuned out…(however, I’m still perplexed we didn’t change channels when the RV tanks were being emptied)…WOW ! That’s entertainment!

I watched all 3 episodes, and The Philanthropist is beyond bad. Cheesy story, cheesy dialogue. And does anyone really wanna see a rich playboy feeling self-ritious all of sudden and saves the day?

And by the way Jamie, I don’t watch Chuck. I do watch Law and Order, The Listener, Southland, and more on NBC. I’m even one of the 5 people who watch Kings. I give NBC a shot…but it has to give me a reason to have hope, and 5 days of Leno at 10 pm ET won’t help.

According to Futon Critic, Road Trip will be moving to Mondays @ 8:00. NCIS reruns were the only real competition for Road Trip on Tuesday nights. With that said, I think ratings will be worse on Mondays considering big competition from The Bachelorette; they should’ve followed the American Idol formula. Here’s the link to the page: .

Yep for the next 4 weeks Better Off Ted will air its remaining Season 1 episodes along with Scrubs repeats. The series second season will start in November but this is a chance to sample this really funny series.

Definitely watch it.

Better Off Ted and Scrubs were bumped for a 20/20 about Michael Jackson since his memorial ceremony was that day. Both were scheduled to be reruns.

Don, no, the show I’m thinking about aired on ABC. It aired prior to The Amazing Race: Family Edition. I looked it up on Bing and the show was called Treasure Hunters. Laird Macintosh was the host. It was really odd because the host sounded like a robot.

Adam, the Philanthropist is gone after the summer as is Merlin. NBC just enjoys burning off low rated series that they already paid for. Considering how well NBC’s AGT does, im surprised NBC doesn’t air it during the broadcast year, though it would be hard for them now considering the limited timeslots.

ABC had surprisingly decent ratings last night. 20/20 got the numbers it did because there were exclusive interviews (and one exclusive Stevie Wonder performance). I’m not surprised Primetime: Family Secrets beat CBS and NBC at 10:00. NBC should put America’s Got Talent @ 8:00 and Road Trip @ 9:00. This formula has been proven successful with new shows launched after American Idol, so I don’t see why it can’t work for NBC.

I have to say, I'm not surprised in the least that "Road Trip" started out so poorly. Peter Paltridge said it best when he wrote about why "The Chopping Block" tanked:

Another "risk-free" idea is to blatantly rip off another show. This is Hell's Kitchen, the reality program where an angry chef yells at people for an hour. The only change is the name and that it's a different angry chef. This is a behavior of network execs that I will never understand, because total ripoffs of more popular shows almost never work. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, people would prefer to watch the original show. If you want a guarantee, you're NOT going to find it here! Ripoffs don't avoid risk, they jump right into the pit!

I watched the first 30 seconds of Road Trip and turned the channel. Thought it might be interesting because of being on Rte 66 but quickly saw it was just going to be another set-up, scripted, stupid stunts show.

Road Trip was pretty funny and had some imaginative challenges. I’m a big Amazing Race fan and wasn’t crazy about season 8 but Road Trip isn’t really a carbon copy of that poor season of AR. It’s more of a competiton based show with great American landmarks as the backdrop. I enjoyed it.

1) We don’t see the P2+ share in our overnight data. We do see household ratings and share, but don’t list them because they aren’t particularly meaningful to the shows or the networks.

2) A week or so ago we stopped getting the weekly ratings data on every broadcast show, we expect to get it again in September.

“Were there much better secrets this week?” –The Family Secrets episode was focused on the Jackson family’s troubles. So, yes, to answer your question, haha.

“Didn’t ABC have a similar show to The Great American Road Trip a couple of years ago?” –You might be thinking of season 8 of The Amazing Race which was The Amazing Race: Family Edition. It got criticized for being incredibly boring, unfun to watch, and got low ratings. How TGART got greenlighted with the history of TAR8 is a mystery.

Instead of the reruns and reality shows, I took a look at the new Sci Fi. . .oops, make that SyFy show “Warehouse 13″. It was Ok to good. Not great, but the pilots are often designed to get you through the introductions. It seems a bit like a similar show they (SyFy) put on several years ago called the Chronicle.
I think Warehouse 13 has some potential. I’ll give it another look next week.

Didn’t ABC have a similar show to The Great American Road Trip a couple of years ago? It was about teams looking at clues to try to get to different American landmarks, kind of like The Amazing Race. I turned to The Great American Road Trip for a couple minutes and it looked pretty stupid. A bunch of people racing while wearing giant presidents’ heads and one of the most annoying hosts I’ve ever seen.

Firstly, congratulatiosn for your excellent website ! Well done !

I have got two questions :
1) why don’t you write in your overnight result the share 2+, why do you write only the share A.18-49 ?
2) and why do you stop the top 20 by broadcast (ABC? CBS, NBC, FOX, CW) ? I know because the holidays and many repeats, but in summer there is many premiere also (WWTBAM in august, Big brother, SYTYCDance, American’s talent, tv series who stop in july or august, …).
