CARTOON NETWORK

  • Cartoon Network’s newest franchise CN REAL—presenting a variety of alternative, live-action original programming—is attracting a considerable amount of double-digit delivery gains among its targeted audience of kids 6-11, kids 9-14, boys 6-11 and boys 9-14 compared to the same time periods in 2008, according to preliminary data from Nielsen Media Research.   The Othersiders(Wednesday, 8 p.m.) is tapping into an older kids demo, with delivery of kids 9-14 advancing by 43%, boys 9-14 by 42% and even girls 9-14 by 44%.  Similarly, Destroy Build Destroy (Saturday, 8:30 p.m.) earned huge across-the-board delivery gains among kids 6-11 (up 58%), boys 6-11 (up 72%), kids 9-14 (up 61%) and boys 9-14 (up 107%).  In the meantime, BrainRush(Saturday, 8 p.m.) found its sweet spot among kids 6-11 and boys 6-11, with delivery increases charting 11% and 33%, respectively.
  • Additionally, the animated reality-comedy series Total Drama Action (Thursday, 9 p.m.), continues to score solid ratings and delivery gains among kids, boys and girls 9-14 vs. the same time period last year.  The latest episode produced 8% delivery gains among kids 9-14, 9% delivery gains among boys 9-14 and 6% delivery gains among girls 9-14.  Boys 6-11 delivery also grew 4% vs. the same 2008 time period.

So . . . does this mean that The Othersiders isn’t moving? Or is this typical spin from the network?

  2. IHateCN4EverNow

Wow. Cartoon Network fails at being a cartoon television network. Sucks to be them.

  3. IHateCN4EverNow

So… Cartoon Network epically fails at being a cartoon television network. That sucks.

  4. Kokujo

IHateCN4EverNow did you really have to say the same thing twice. What a loser.

This compares the ratings to the same time last year when CN wasn’t even trying to reach the 9-14 age group in those time slots. How do the CN Real shows compare to when Toonami was in the weekday early evening slot?

Wow, no mention of “Survive This” — the other live-action show. Yikes!

Nothing Airing in ’08 was that big of a draw anyway. Its like your ratings went from the bottom of the toilet to..about halfway up the bowl. In other news Hasbro/Discovery joint venture has picked the woman that made Fox Kids Network to be the head of their new Kids Station.

I only have one word to say about this: “Why?” This is ridiculous. This is the second station to betray its very name, with the first being MTV.

I’m starting to view Cartoon Network less because of it. I’m not supporting the CN Real block. I change the channel every time a CN Real show is on, and I urge you all to do the same.

All they’re trying to do is trying to take a positive spin on it, and they’re failing badly, their shows from last year weren’t any better or worse than this year’s shows, a failure is still a failure, and they have yet to figure that out.

This is utterly, and completely stupid. People are actually watching this pure GARBAGE. These are all shows based on…. wait NO scratch that, these are all RIP-OFFS of other, BETTER shows on other channels. They have absolutely nothing to do with cartoons there, and they have absolutely nothing to do with cartoons on cartoon network. I guess we should call it garbage network now. So they replaced Toonami with this piece of trash? Nice, way to go. See now, this wouldn’t bother me so much if this fail of a move was not backed by the fact that people are actually falling for this and watching this junk. REALITY CHECK PEOPLE: Othersiders=really bad version of ghost hunters. Destroy Build Destroy=really bad version of Human Wrecking Balls. Dude, What Would Happen=really bad version of Mythbusters. And what’s with this Total Drama BS? Seriously… But I’ll leave that one alone for now, seeing as how it still actually is a cartoon, though I fail to see how the show’s theme SHOULD be a cartoon.
Bottom line, I am changing the channel every time one of their regurgitated monstrosities rears its ugly mug on my television screen.

Do NOT believe what this article says, it is HIGHLY misleading. It’s true that CN experienced an increased compared to the same time last year, but what they won’t tell you is what was airing one year ago at that same time.

    Wednesday
    8:00PM George of the Jungle
    8:30PM Ben 10: Alien Force

    Saturday
    8:00PM George of the Jungle
    8:30PM Chop Socky Chooks

All reruns and not premieres… all things considered it would not surprise me if ratings were rather low last year at those times, meaning it becomes very easy for any NEW show to show some increase… i’m sure these shows don’t hold a candle to Har Har Tharsdays.

I’ll believe CN real is doing well only when CN shows us some actual rating numbers, instead of twisted percentages.
