These ratings are not really indicative of how many viewers watch the shows. Many shows are being taped on DVR now (and many people work during the day). I think the advertisers are getting a bad deal because they could back shows that are not being fairly counted. Some shows are going off the air such as Guiding Light could be saved as well. Also, I was not asked what shows I watch–I am sure I am one of millions. There are many shows recorded and many households not counted.

    Thank you for your attention.

DVR viewing (if it’s within 24 hours) is included in the above ratings.

  3. Shem

When Guiding Light Ends, ATWT and General Hospital will be in grave danger. They are fighting to be the new last place soap opera. Good for One Life to Live!!

  4. General Hospital for the season is 2.2.They are just having a bad week.TPTB have gotten rid of Kate Howard(bad mistake)and have Claudia who is horrible and the s/l is getting old.Micheal was better as a kid.Spinelli looked like alfalfa from the little rascals coming down the stairs in Jason’s place with only a towel on.How about Jason or Johnny coming down stairs with only a towel on.Jason & Liz.People are sick of Claudia.

  5. KarenM

OMG, Please, a BAD WEEK? GH has been under 2.0 for A MONTH now. The ABC soaps are in huge trouble. GUZA, LISTEN UP! Get off the mob sheeze. We hates it.

  6. General Hospital had a great s/l in Feb with the hospital burning down. Now it sucks. The nu Michael is a pain,Rick is gone,Katie Howard is gone and who cares about Nasty low life Claudia. Liason should be together.

  7. Dean

GH needs to drop the stupid mob storylines and tell stories about characters people actually care about.

  8. ABCHasProblems

I think ABC should just cancel GH and bring back Duel to fill the 3:00/2:00c timeslot. Duel was more of a daytime game show with a $500K top prize and I think it could possibly outperform GH. I imagine that an hour of Duel (an unscripted game show) costs somewhat less than an hour of GH (a scripted soap opera); this idea could work financially for ABC in terms of saving money.

Great to see days giving the CBS soaps a run for their money…also good to see Days doing well with a storyline that doesn’t revolve around the ‘Phoenix’. surgical face changes or levitation. More true to life are the stories like ‘Baby Grace’…after all, you couldn’t write a soap opera with as many twists and turns as real life. Who needs levitation?

ONe thing we all need to realize (and be informed of) is that our soaps may or not have competition with other soaps. We all can’t assume that the soaps are in the same time slots in a different area of the country.

Here in Los Angeles area, Y&R doesn’t have any soap competition. The last time there was a soap that was on during that time slot was Ryan’s Hope and Loving (at least here in LA).

Does anyone know where they post the different time slots of soaps so that we can see how inconsistent it is? Also, do the ratings reflect the rebroadcast on SoapNet? They rebroadcast the same episode like 3 times or something!

Also, it may just be me but I think ABC had always promoted GH more than all its other soaps. OLTL always seems to get the shaft even though we see that it is higher in the ratings nowadays.

I have been an avid OLTL viewer since 1984. I am also a male viewer. I’ve seen OLTL at its best and at its worst. When it’s good, it’s really good. When it’s bad, it’s bad. I think OLTL stays in the good much more than the other. Right now, I think OLTL is getting good again.

I love Ilene Kristen. Roxy is the comedy that we need but she can also pull off the dramatics in her own way, too. Erika Slezak is so underused right now. She’s the show’s anchor! Come on! Give Viki some story!

The thing about OLTL is that is has a very rich history and in the last several years, they have dipped into it and instead of recycling old stories, they have used the past to enrich the current stories. That’s amazing. Some of these other soaps bring on so many new people that it has no connection to its past. OLTL, just like in real life, realizes that its past can strengthen its future.

However, with all the split personality stuff, Viki still never learned that Megan had one too. It’s about time she found a diary or something. 2 of her kids have had it. There are 3 others who don’t…yet.

Also, I think ABC should release old storylines on DVD. As crazy as Eterna was, I think that would be a neat one to have. The Old West, too. I think it would be fan-freakin’-tastic if there was one of Erika Slezak portraying the split personalities. I’m not talking about a 60 minute DVD with tacky narration. I mean, actually have the episodes on DVD!

    What do y’all think?

CBS has lost its way. GL is an ICON and should have been brought back
its glory days. This cancellation will make me quit on the other
CBS soaps as well. BB is awful right now., ATWT, BORING. Y&R is the crown jewel of soaps, so well done, so lets not RUIN that.

However, GL was amazing before the last 5 yrs. CBS and PG should have fixed it.
Reva Shayne was one of the greatest characters ever written. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey OLTLfan. Go to you tube and they have now posted the old west story. Also there are some classic cord and Tina, and Megan and Jake clips. I agree I would like a dvd of older stories myself.

    Hi TJ,

I check YouTube frequently but the quality of the image is so poor. Bless those who post them, though. I’m sure i have old VHS tapes of Jessica Tuck’s hey-day on OLTL. I think MEGAN was my all-time favorite character.

I started watching OLTL back when Tina and Cord hooked up and Maria, Cord’s mom, hated Tina. I remember TIna killed her with that liquid poison that spilled on her. Tina had a necklace that had huge black beads. I’m shocked that I still remember that detail! I also remember when Dorian “killed” Mitch Laurence with the candlestick to save Cassie. MAN! Those were the days!

I was so excited when they brought Janet Zarish back to play Lee Halpern but then they wasted the opportunity and then killed her. That was weak.

Anyway, OLTL Forever! Hey, They just had their 41st anniversary this week or something, didn’t they? I used to be an avid reader of Soap Opera Digest. I used to follow that stuff like crazy! Does anyone know if the magazine is still as good as it was back in the 80s and early 90s?
