Growing its Total Day Audience for the 3rd Straight Week, Disney Channel Generates its Second-Largest Weekly Audience Ever in Viewers and Key Kids

Bolstered by Friday’s stellar debut of “Wizards On Deck with Hannah Montana,” Disney Channel ranked as TV’s No. 1 network in Total Day for the 4th consecutive week in Kids 6-11 (928,000/3.8 rating), and for the 10th straight week in Tweens 9-14 (817,000/3.3 rating). Moreover, growing its total day audience for the third week in a row, this week stood as the net’s second-most-watched week on record in Total Day in Total Viewers (2.2 million), Kids 6-11 (928,000) and Tweens 9-14 (817,000), behind only the week of 8/13/07.

Wizards On Deck with Hannah Montana,” qualified as the week’s No. 1 TV telecast in Kids 6-11 (3.8 million/15.5 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (3.7 million/15.2 rating), and cable’s No. 1 telecast in Total Viewers (9.3 million).  Impressively, this was the 3rd time in 4 weeks Disney Channel has delivered the week’s No. 1 telecast on all cable in Total Viewers.

On Friday, Disney Channel was TV’s No. 1 network in Prime in Households (4.0 million/3.5 rating) and Total Viewers (6.0 million), topping No. 2 CBS by 5% and by 20 % (3.8 million and 5.0 million, respectively).  In fact, Friday’s victory marked the net’s 2nd win in the past 4 weeks, with Disney Channel the only cable network this year to beat all broadcast competition on a Friday night.

For the week in Prime, Disney Channel stood as cable’s No. 1 network in Total Viewers (3.3 million), while posting its 224th consecutive win in Kids 6-11 (1.5 million/6.2 rating) and 220th in Tweens 9-14 (1.3 million/5.2 rating).  In Kids 6-11, this week qualified as the net’s 3rd-most-watched week ever - - behind weeks of 8/13/07 and 8/21/06.

  • The week’s No. 1 TV telecast in target kids and cable’s No. 1 telecast in Total Viewers, Friday’s premiere of cross-over special “Wizards On Deck with Hannah Montana” became TV’s No. 1 scripted telecast of 2009 in Kids 6-11 (3.8 million/15.5 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (3.7 million/15.2 rating), and cable’s No. 1 scripted telecast in Total Viewers (9.3 million).
  • Altogether, in Tweens 9-14, Disney Channel owned TV’s Top 10 telecasts for the week, and 18 of the Top 20.  In Kids 6-11, the net aired the week’s Top 3 TV telecasts, and 8 of the Top 10 overall.

“Wizards On Deck With Hannah Montana,” Encore 1 (Sat., 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.)

Saturday’s No. 1 TV telecast, the first encore of “Wizards On Deck with Hannah Montana” dominated its time period in target kid categories, towering over runner-up Nickelodeon by 70% in Kids 6-11 (1.7 million vs. 1.0 million) and doubling delivery in Tweens 9-14 (1.5 million vs. 727,000). In Total Viewers, the replay edged out “SpongeBob” marathon episodes by 3% (3.8 million vs. 3.7 million).

  • “Wizards On Deck with Hannah Montana” posted Disney Channel’s second-highest deliveries in the time period on record in Total Viewers (3.8 million), Kids 6-11 (1.7 million) and Tweens 9-14 (1.5 million), behind only 9/29/07.
  • Versus year-ago time period levels, deliveries at least doubled in Total Viewers (3.8 million vs. 1.9 million), Kids 6-11 (1.7 million vs. 635,000) and Tweens 9-14 (1.5 million vs. 513,000).

“Wizards On Deck With Hannah Montana,” Encore 2 (Sat., 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.)

The second encore of “Wizards On Deck with Hannah Montana” delivered a commanding No. 1 rank in its time period versus all TV in key kids, topping second-place Nickelodeon by 43% in Kids 6-11 (1.3 million vs. 906,000) and by 52% in Tweens 9-14 (1.2 million vs. 790,000).  In Total Viewers, the replay was cable’s No. 1 program from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., besting Nickelodeon by 6% (3.4 million vs. 3.2 million).

  • Saturday evening’s telecast exceeded year-ago time period averages by double-digit percentages, increasing by 70% in Total Viewers (3.4 million vs. 2.0 million), by 53% in Kids 6-11 (1.3 million vs. 850,000) and by 86% Tweens 9-14 (1.2 million vs. 645,000).

“Wizards On Deck With Hannah Montana,” Encore 3 (Sun., 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.)

The third encore of “Wizards On Deck with Hannah Montana”, and 4th weekend showing overall, also ranked as TV’s No. 1 program in its time period, overshadowing No. 2 Nickelodeon by 15% in Kids 6-11 (1.1 million vs. 953,000) and by 21% in Tweens 9-14 (878,000 vs. 724,000).

  • Sunday’s third encore surpassed year-ago time period deliveries by double-digit percentages, increasing by 40% in Total Viewers (2.8 million vs. 2.0 million), by 33% in Kids 6-11 (1.1 million vs. 827,000) and by 32% Tweens 9-14 (878,000 vs. 665,000).
