@Justin: Returning shows are usually given 22 episode orders; new shows are usually given 13 episode orders, with the network ordering additional episodes (a “backorder”) if the show is doing okay.

Those numbers aren’t constant though – in ABC’s case, the sophomore shows (Castle, Better off Ted) only picked up 13 episode initial orders for this season, though they too could get backorders if they do well.

To answer your specific question though: ABC did not announce a midseason schedule. So, in theory, every show on ABC’s Fall schedule will be a hit and will run through the end of May. In reality, of course, many of those new/soph shows won’t see December, and ABC has additional shows (V, Happy Town, Lost) that will take their place come January.

I don’t think the Wednesday Line-up will survive, Eastwick looks a bit tacky

The Forgotten screams Boston Legal maybe its not from ABC Studios

I freaking hope Ugly Betty survives at friday! Give me the show a new timeslot and a miracle!.

I think Flash Forward will be the new breakout show to ABC since Ugly Betty.

@justin, Generally speaking, all the shows will get a full season (22 episodes), which will last until May. Of course, if the ratings for a show tank, it will get pulled at mid-season or before.

Marc, Surviving Suburbia was a dead show as of ABC’s 2009-10 schedule announcement in May. They’re going to air the remaining new shows, as with Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money, but it’s not coming back.

Sharktank is like the cadnaian show “Dragon’s Den”…. pitching new inventions.

Turned out to be VERY cheap to produce and actually moderatley watched (for a candianm shwo thats good)….so it won’t need much ratings to stay alive.

Private Practice wasn’t on the previous press release.. but now it is. Network revisionism is fun!

Honestly, I don’t know why ABC didn’t just sched Brothers & Private right off the bat.

And I’m not sure what to make of Eastwick getting a “normal” premiere date. Does ABC now think that its not in the running for first-canceled show, or have they already written it off and figure they might as well get as many airings in as they can before midseason starts?

And does anyone think any of Wednesday will survive into Winter? I can sort of see The Middle an/or Hank getting a small backorder to serve, a la Better off Ted, as Tuesday Dancing padding in Spring, but that’s it.

Jalen, as far as I can figure “in season premiere” simply means the next episode in the series (that you correctly noted begins 8/9), but it’s in “premiere” week, so it’s “special”.

what does “in season” premier mean for Shark Tank? the premier is on August 9th…so will that be a pilot airing then it will continue its run starting september 29th?
