CBS SAYS "LET'S MAKE A DEAL"

Emmy Award-Winner Wayne Brady Hosts New Take On Classic

Game Show From FremantleMedia North America

New One-Hour Daytime Series To Premiere Monday, Oct. 5

LET'S MAKE A DEAL, a new take on the classic game show where audience members dress in outlandish costumes to win cash and prizes by making deals with the host, will premiere Monday, Oct. 5, (check local listings) on the CBS Television Network.  Emmy Award-winner Wayne Brady will host the new one-hour daytime series produced by FremantleMedia North America ("American Idol," "The Price is Right").

The original LET'S MAKE A DEAL was a television game show staple during the 1960s and 70s when it was hosted by Monty Hall from 1963-1977.  While later versions aired in syndication and primetime, the game show is best remembered for the years hosted by Hall, who will serve as a creative consultant on this latest version.

"I am honored and ready to go; it is not every day that you get to be a part of a franchise like LET'S MAKE A DEAL," said Wayne Brady. "I think it is a perfect fit."

"We are delighted to have LET'S MAKE A DEAL back on the air with CBS," said Monty Hall.  "I know the audience is going to welcome the charming and engaging Wayne Brady as the new host."

"Wayne Brady is a unique talent whose extraordinary skills in both hosting and improvisation make him the perfect choice to host this legendary and engaging show. We are thrilled to be adding him and LET'S MAKE A DEAL to the number one Daytime lineup," says Barbara Bloom Senior Vice President, Daytime Programs, CBS.  "We're also very lucky to have Monty Hall as our creative consultant, bringing with him a knowledge of game shows that will prove invaluable as we present this classic game show to a whole new audience."

"We're very pleased to bring this franchise back to American audiences," says Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of FremantleMedia North America.  "A global brand with a proven track record, LET'S MAKE A DEAL is a game show that delivers the kind of upbeat, unpredictable and aspirational fun viewers are looking for.  With the multi-talented Wayne Brady as our host, the one and only Monty Hall at our side and a great network timeslot, we're confident this new version will provide the entertainment value that has made this brand resonate around the world for decades."

LET'S MAKE A DEAL becomes the second game show on CBS's top-rated Daytime lineup, joining "The Price is Right," hosted by Drew Carey, which is the #2 ranked series on Daytime television.

Wayne Brady won an Emmy Award and earned two Emmy Award nominations for the improvisational show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" and went on to host his own syndicated talk/variety show "The Wayne Brady Show" for two years. He picked up Emmy Awards for Outstanding Talk Show Host and Outstanding Talk Show.  Brady was last seen hosting the game show "Don't Forget the Lyrics." He has guest starred on "The Dave Chappelle Show," "30 Rock," "Dirt" and "Everybody Hates Chris," as well as "How I Met Your Mother," on the Network.  In film, Brady recently provided a voice for the upcoming animated feature, "Foodfight!" Brady also earned a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for his single "A Change is Gonna Come" off his debut musical album "A Long Time Coming."  In 2005, he completed a run playing Billy Flynn in the Broadway production of "Chicago."  He has also made a big splash in Vegas with his current hit stage show "Makin' It Up."

LET'S MAKE A DEAL is hosted by Wayne Brady.  Mike Richards ("The Price is Right") is the Executive Producer.  Produced by FremantleMedia North America, the one-hour show will be broadcast weekdays (check local listings) on the CBS Television Network.

  1. I think it’s kinda funny Drew Carrey and Wayne Brady on the same network hosting Game-Shows. What about Ryan Styles

  2. Grant

How sad that this mess replaces Guiding Light. I will NEVER watch this.

  3. Donny

If TPIR is #2 in Daytime, what’s #1?

  4. ABCHasProblems

TPIR is #2 in Daytime? That show has become really boring ever since Bob Barker left in 2007. I don’t see how people can still be watching it.

I think Wayne Brady will be an excellent host for LMAD. On the other hand, I wonder if CBS would consider reviving Whose Line since both Carey and Brady are hosting game shows on the network. :)

  5. Russ

I thought Drew Carey was and is a terrible choice for TPIR, I would have used the guy that hosts the new Family Feud and was on Seinfeld, better demographic, Wayne Brady will hopefully be fine, but how long does he get before CBS may yank it

  6. DJinATL

Y&R is the #1 network Daytime show, I think. TPIR was until Bob left. Well, the second half hour was anyway.

  7. RJ

“If TPIR is #2 in Daytime, what’s #1?”

TPIR isnt as good with Drew Carey as it was with Bob Barker, but I still like to watch it. I hope its around for years to come! :)

  8. Are we seeing a slow comeback of the daytime network gameshows? When I was a kid, NBC and CBS had a load of them, especially in the mornings. ABC never really did for some odd reason.

  9. rob

I loved The Price Is Right when Bob Barker was the host. I dont care for Drew Carey but I still like the show. Im not gonna stop watching it because they change hosts.

  10. Rob R

What will CBS air for the two weeks in between the Guiding Light finale and the debut of Let’s Make a Deal? Is Guiding Light going to be extended two extra weeks (until Oct 2)?

  11. @Rob R — TBA repeats.

  12. Meli

Wayne Brady would be a good host for LMaD, though who is saying this kind of gameshow would be successful in a new millenium? And is there a guarantee that affiliates simply won’t fill the hour with their own programming?

  13. As much as I’m excited to have daytime game shows again, I really hoped Pyramid would join. My only fear is that if they don’t get creative enough, it will just look like a watered down Price is Right. I’m grateful… just disappointed. I’m partially upset (and again, don’t get me wrong, I’m very, very glad that a game is back in daytime, it could open up a whirlwind of opportunity) because I prefer a more cerebral game. With Price as an hour show, they can mix it up a little, but an hour of “What’s behind door Number 2?” might not keep attention. Still, I’m going to watch the new LMAD every opportunity I get.

I was hoping that the Bold And The Beautiful would expand to an hour show, and perhaps take over Guiding Lights time slot.

  15. Chuck Collins

It would have worked better if they had put a half-hour version of LMAD on at 1:30 and expanded B&B to an hour at 3:00. My guess is that alot of affiliates take that hour and double-pump a court show instead.

  16. CP

I assume with this, “Don’t Forget The Lyrics” was cancelled. The guys got into trouble a lot on “Whose Line” for disagreeing/making fun of the producers a lot so they may be hesitant to bring it back. If they do, they must have Colin Mocherie.

  17. R.G.

Wayne Brady??? —isn’t he doing “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” on Fox – now he’s on in the daytime…???…are there really that few “MC’s” and game show hosts that we need Drew & Wayne to be hosting…I miss Bob, Wink, Monty and even Gene…these new guys Stink!
