GORDON RAMSAY IS COMING TO YOUR KITCHEN

“GORDON RAMSAY: COOKALONG LIVE” TO AIR

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15, ON FOX

FOX Orders Up Another Season of HELL’S KITCHEN

Superstar chef Gordon Ramsay is bringing his culinary expertise to homes across the U.S. as he invites viewers to cookalong with him from the comfort of their own kitchens during GORDON RAMSAY: COOKALONG LIVE. Based on the U.K. Smash hit, Ramsay will star in a live one-hour special airing Tuesday, Dec. 15 (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) where he’ll be giving America a one-on-one cooking lesson, providing viewers with a real-time demonstration and step-by-step instructions on how to cook a delicious three-course meal in just 60 Minutes – and he's going to do it all LIVE.

In addition to the previously announced seventh season order, FOX has picked up an eighth installment of HELL’S KITCHEN, the sizzling series that puts aspiring chefs through a rigorous culinary boot camp as Ramsay searches for the one worthy of a life-changing grand prize.

“Gordon Ramsay is one of the most sought-after culinary experts in the world and one of the most compelling personalities on television,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company. “We’re really excited not only to welcome Gordon back for another season of HELL’S KITCHEN, but also to give everyone in America the opportunity to experience Gordon firsthand and live with COOKALONG LIVE.”

GORDON RAMSAY: COOKALONG LIVE will be the biggest cooking event America has ever seen as viewers slice, dice, chop and filet with Chef Ramsay. Viewers will be prepped in advance with the list of ingredients, utensils and cookware they will need to ensure they can keep up with the chef and not get thrown out of the kitchen. When the live hour is over, viewers will have prepared a delicious three-course meal to share with their families.

The sixth season of HELL’S KITCHEN currently airs Tuesdays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, and will cumulate in a two-hour season finale Tuesday, Oct. 13 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). The winner of HELL’S KITCHEN Season Six will receive a Head Chef position at Araxi Restaurant in Vancouver, Canada.

GORDON RAMSAY: COOKALONG LIVE is produced by One Potato Two Potato.

HELL’S KITCHEN is produced by ITV (formerly Granada America) in association with A. Smith & Co. Productions. Arthur Smith and Kent Weed serve as executive producers.

When is Hell’s Kitchen season 7 going to air? There is no room on the midseason schedule unless something fails (Fridays and Fringe, I’m looking at you). If Fringe flops in its new slot, I bet Hell’s will air in the Thursday 9pm slot again from January, with season 8 next Summer. Also, I bet Kitchen Nightmares will end up replacing something on the Friday schedule by November (in fact, I think midseason Fridays will be Kitchen Nightmares/Secret Millionaire with the comedies/Dollhouse axed).

As for Cookalong, I’m predicting moderate success (7-9m, 3-4 in the demo). They must keep it as an occasional series though, as it bombed in the UK when it went weekly.

Hell’s Kitchen is a great summer show! I’m sure the 7th season will be able to find a slot on the schedule.

Mr. R, if this Cookalong thing has 7-9 million viewers, I’m betting the demo will be closer to the 4 than the 3. Since Hell’s Kitchen is around 6 million viewers with a 3 demo, I think Cookalong can do the same.

Hell’s Kitchen will not air on a Friday. FOX actually appreciates Ramsey products – they’ve been a consistent staple of FOX for years now – so that’s not going to happen.

However, I agree with you for Thursdays, if only to start airing after Fringe airs its original eps. It’s conceivable (and probable) that Kitchen airing on Thursdays at 9 ISN’T due to Fringe not working; it would be put there to keep FOX’s schedule fresh, so to speak.

  4. Mr R.

Yeah, I agree that FOX appreciates the Ramsay shows, but Kitchen Nightmares could air on a Friday (it struggled on Thursday last year) and do decently (and would sit well with Secret Millionaire). HK couldn’t air on a Friday, though.

HK has a nice fan base, but it wouldn’t outperform Fringe on Thursdays.

I doubt Fox will dump scripted programming from Fridays wholesale–at least not by midseason–and talent shows and crime aside, Kevin Reilly doesn’t seem too enthusiastic about programming reality fare outside of summer or interseasonal periods–which, ‘Kitchen’ is really ideal for anyway.

I will be watching the Cook Along – if it’s on FOX and not a cable channel…Love hell’s kitchen – can’t wait for more seasons…

Isn’t the show only in like it’s 5th or 6th season? why do they renew is for so many season’s ahead of time, between now and season 8 ratings can drop and Ramsey might not want to keep doing the show.

  8. Joshua

    yay~

i definitely enjoyed cook-a-long live, which aired its first season on Channel 4, UK, so hope it’s another modest hit by Gordon Ramsay also in the US.

I’ve finally gotten burned out on Ramsay, after watching all the HK’s and KN’s and even playing the HK computer game. :-) HK has become the exact same thing over and over, and KN also follows an absolutely predictable formula… I once wrote a piece on how I learned to run a restaurant by watching KN and laid out the formula, including the vital step of taking a brisk walk around the neighborhood to see what’s there, and that ingredient/supply chain costs, inadequate capitalization, competition, poor location and advertising budget never, ever result in restaurant failures. Meanwhile, fresh ingredients, reducing the size of a menu, eliminating pictures in the menu and giving out free food at a community event can deal with any business or advertising problems. :-) HK is almost as predictable, and getting more and more scripted (an insider admitted last season’s row between JP and the party planner was fabricated). Combine this with Ramsay’s family man image being burst with the revelations of his cheating on his wife (so much for being my hero who calls out phonies and frauds) and his bizarre, insulting, misogynistic comments he made while on a publicity tour in Australia, and the wheels seem to be coming off of Ramsay’s bus.

I’m not sure a one-night live cooking show will freshen the stale formulas of his shows or his image at this point.

Oh and Mr. R, there’s no way Fringe can go from its Cancel/Renew Index score of 1.35 last season to flopping via a time-change. Whether it siphons ratings from Supernatural is another story.

I Love Hell’s Kitchen and I never get tired of it! One of the most brilliant and Original Shows on Tv. The Show really gets the most desired Demographics ratings wise! KEEP COOKIN CHEF RAMSAY!

My guess would be on Monday night, assuming they intend to air Season 7 in the winter/spring of 2010. With American Idol coming back in January you’ll have Fringe on Tuesday night and Lie to Me on Wednesday. Monday night might actually be named ‘dysfunction’ night between House at 8 and GR screaming at everybody at 9.

Joseph: I’d love to read your piece!
