day old news, but here's the official press release:
ABC ANNOUNCES THE PREMIERE OF THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED
NEW SERIES “V” ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3
ABC announces the premiere of the highly anticipated new series “V,” on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET/PT). “V” is a re-imagining of the 1980s miniseries about the world’s first encounter with an alien race. Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or V's) promote a message of peace. Through their generous offer to share advanced technology, the V's build a following that may actually hide a more malevolent agenda, one that twists a very deep component of human nature -- devotion.
While the world quickly becomes fascinated with the V’s and their link to wonders just beyond the reach of human understanding, FBI Counter Terrorist Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) discovers a secret hidden beneath the skin of every V – a secret that may threaten the lives of everyone close to her. Yet for her teenage son, Tyler (Logan Huffman), the V’s are his ticket to something big and hopeful—a new chance for mankind to unite in common goals. To Chad Decker (Scott Wolf), a career-hungry news anchor, his exclusive interview with Anna (Morena Baccarin), the leader of the V’s, is crucial to his dominating the airwaves. Also unsure about the Visitors is Father Jack (Joel Gretsch), a priest questioning his faith in the wake of the Visitors’ arrival. Seeking answers outside the church, Father Jack discovers there are other dissidents who believe the Visitors are not who they say they are, including Ryan Nichols (Morris Chestnut), who is faced with his own life-altering decision when the V’s show up. Never has there been more at stake -- it truly is the dawning of a new day.
“V” also stars Lourdes Benedicto as Ryan's fiancée, Valerie, and Laura Vandervoort as Lisa, an alluring Visitor who sets her sights on Tyler.
“V” is produced by The Scott Peters Company and HDFilms in association with Warner Bros. Television. Scott Peters (“The 4400,” “The Outer Limits”), Jeffrey Bell (“Day Break,” “Alias”), Steve Pearlman (“Reunion,” “Related”) and Jace Hall (“F.E.A.R,” “Condemned: Criminal Origins” video games) are executive producers. The pilot was directed by Yves Simoneau (“Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee,” “The 4400”).

I’m guessing that V will take over for Shark Tank which will finish airing by then. So ABC has 4 new dramas and 4 new comedies. I wonder which will fail and which will succeed.
i hope that all will fail so abc could pick up BODY POLITIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i heard this was picked up for 13 episodes, would that be it for season one no matter what, or could it be extended?
i think it’s a bad timeslot, the biggest loser, NCIS, SYTYCD… i hope can survive
Obviously reminiscent of Morena’s previous role on Stargate. I’m checking it out, I never can resist corny sci-fi.
My prediction:
Season Premiere: 11-13M {4 -5.0 (18-49)}
my perdiction is utter failure for this remake. What stupid network executive puts this show up against ncis? Ncis reruns on usa network will have more viewers than this remake!!
Is it vee or five?
V for victory! Or something. I don’t recall the reason why. But it’s vee not five.
it’s been 25 years (I didn’t watch the ABC pilot yet), but I think “V” stood for “Visitor” but that could be wrong…
That certainly makes more sense. I didn’t watch the original 25 years ago, but it’s been a few since I did see it. But I’m being told it may be both. Something about WWII and the resistance, and the similarities thereof.
@dollhouse sucks, things might have changed since the last time I read news about the show, but I believe there will be only 13 episodes this season no matter what. Supposedly it’s been planned out a bit like Lost, with a definite ending after 3 or 4 seasons.
wow, 26 years since the original mini-series. i’m pretty sure you weren’t even alive then! curiosity got the better of me and I looked it up — you are correct!
“The symbol of the resistance was a blood-red letter V (for victory) spray-painted over posters promoting Visitor friendship among humans.“
Heh. Nope, not alive yet.
@ Patrick O
You’re right, season 1 of “V” has a 13 episodes order no matter what. The filming schedule is August 12th 2009 to January 14th 2010 in Vancouver. It’ll probably air 4-5 episodes as a network event, go on hiatus for the holidays before coming back mid-season for the rest of the episodes. It’s a pretty risky move from ABC because it’s not certain that the audience will be back for the new year. That’s exactly what the network decided to do for “Lost”, back in season 3, and the audience just deserted that show in the new year and it never recovered since then. Also, I have to say that putting it against NCIS (the #1 show on tuesdays) could be suicidal. That show has an average of 17- 18 millions, I even saw it go in the 20 millions more than once.
Almost forgot, my prediction:
Season premiere will be around 12 millions, then it will go down week to week (thanks to NCIS!). I think that overall, it will have an average of 9 millions by the end of its run.
Can’t wait to see Flash Forward and V premieres, these two shows are gonna be the biggest new hits this fall, you’ll see
Robert,
My recollection (though I haven’t seen it in awhile either) is that you are both correct. I think that the Visitors used the “V” in promotional materials showing the supposed harmony between themselves and the humans, but then the resistance co-opted the letter for Victory.
I haven’t had anything to watch on Tuesdays at 8:00 in quite some time, so this will allow me to easily give it a try.
Not really interested in “open” alien invasions – I prefer the sneaky “X-Files” kind, so I’ll probably pass on V.
OTOH, the combination of Morena Baccarin and Laura Vandervoort…hmmm…
I just wonder if they’re gonna turn the human-like Visitors into reptilian gopher-eaters like the original series, heh, heh.
