NEW YORK–Aug. 9, 2009– Nickelodeon’s iCarly--basic cable’s number-one kids’ program among total viewers quarter to date, was the champ with total viewers, kids and tweens with its “iFight Shelby Marx” special (Aug. 8, 8 p.m. ET/PT ), which drew 7.9 million viewers (P2+) and set a series record as the most watched iCarly special with viewers (P2+).  “iFight” was basic cable’s number-one telecast with kids and tweens on Saturday night, and lead the competition by triple-digits, with all kids and tween demos ahead of  Disney counterprogramming (a new episode of Wizards of Waverly Place [8-8:30 p.m.all times ET/PT] and a repeat of Hannah Montana “He Could be the One” special [8:30 – 9:30 p.m.]).

iCarly “iFight Shelby Marx” ratings highlights include:

  • iCarly ranks as basic cable’s top kids program on Saturday night with 7.9 million total viewers (P2+), up +435% in delivery over last year and +146% ahead of Disney counter programming.
  • With K2-11, iCarly averaged a 12.1/4.3 million K2-11, up +384% in rating over last year’s time period and +157% ahead of the competition during the same time period.
  • Kids 6-11 ratings were especially strong, garnering a 16.4/3.5 million K6-11, up +483% in rating and was +160% ahead of the competition during the same time period.
  • Among Tweens, the telecast averaged a 14.2/3.1 million T9-14—up +788% in rating, and +178% ahead of its nearest competitor during the same time period.

In iCarly “Fight Shelby Marx,” it’s the battle of teen sensations when reigning online queen Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) squares off against teen fighting champion Shelby Marx (Victoria Justice).  Carly jokingly challenges the champ to a fight during an iCarly webcast which Shelby thinks would be a promotional win-win for both girls to participate in a mixed-martial arts exhibition. However, when Carly accidentally pushes Shelby’s grandmother at a press conference, Shelby is ready to throw off the gloves and knock out her opponent.

    Good for ICarly

Had a feeling it was going to do really well since ICarly was a trending topic on Twitter last night.

  2. Jose, that is sort of surprising since I keep reading about how teens and tweens don’t use Twitter!

  3. Jon

Looks like Burn Notice won’t be Number 1 for the week but the kids show like iCarly always seem to do well but iCarly has really irractic scheduling.

BTW Robert, when we will find out Monk and Psych’s numbers? I’m guessing Tuesday unless USA brings out a press statement on Monday..

  4. Hot Pocket

I was right as I said both Burn Notice and iCarly would reach series highs.

Is just patheitc how badly the networks have thrown away Saturdays and yet cable is reaching solid ratings and series highs for their shows. Hall of Fame probably also did well.

  5. ABCHasProblems

iFight Shelby Marx was really funny. I wonder how many total viewers watched when you count the original Saturday 8 pm airing + Sunday 11 am airing + Sunday 7 pm airing. I think of iCarly as a family show since kids, teens, and adults can all watch and laugh. You can’t say that about that Wizards crap on Disney.

  6. Ted

Congrats to “iCarly”! First the Emmy nomination, and now this!!! Almost 8 million it’s premiere!!!

  7. iCarly’s creator Dan Schneider just linked to this article on his Twitter account:
    http://twitter.com/DanWarp

I’m so glad the iCarly special did very well! :)

  8. Yes I did! Thanks for following me on Twitter. :)

  9. I now follow Dan as well :-) Congrats and thank you for the link! BTW, though it’s only been on the site a couple of hours, this page is already by far and away the most viewed page on our site today.

around 20 percent of the traffic is coming from Dan’s link on Twitter with the rest of it coming in via Google search. Lots of fans of iCarly, not that we didn’t already know that from the ratings!

  10. Jon, sorry, missed the last part of your comment at first. Yes, we will see the rest of the cable numbers on Tuesday morning if there aren’t any press releases before hand.

  11. Shane

Nickelodeon is still the reigning champ! And iCarly is a monstrous hit! Congratulations to Dan Schneider on DECADES of success in the kids industry and yet another one. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the Veronica Justice-project (she played Shelby Marx) coming in 2010!

  12. Hey its awesome.
i think icarly is the best teen-kids show and everyone can watch it cause its really cool.
i hope icarly wins on Teens Choice awards :D
    Good work Dan!!! :D
i follow you on Twitter too =)
    im 18 :P

  13. Pynki

Not surprised. I’m 25 and i Carly cracks me up.

  14. Jim

Not everyday you get a 788% increase in a certain demo, kids show or not.

Robert, 15 yr old Morgan Stanley interns may have insight but certainly not all the answers, in fact his answers match up to what mine would have been when I was 15 in 1982 or so sans the fancy updated tech mind you , btw what is an icarly, lol, I’m getting too old.

  16. Nick

number one entertainment network among kids? i dont think so, that’s Disney Channel. but then again, Disney seems to attract an audience slightly older (around 9-14) than Nickelodeon (7-12).

  17. Kyle S.

@ ABCHasProblems, Actually you can say that about Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney Channel. It is a very entertaining show to watch for not only kids but adults as well. I am 23 and often watch it with my little cousin. You are entitled to your opinion though. I just thought I would add my two cents.

  18. Joe Mora

I’m 19, and since I watched my first episode a few months ago, I’ve been tuning in for every new episode. I agree with the others who say its for families, not just young kids. I salute the producers, because iFight was seriously the most hilarious tv special I’ve seen in years. I watched it all three times since it came out, and I laugh harder every time.
@Shane the actress who played Shelby Marx is Victoria Justice, not Veronica Justice.

  19. Jack

I was with younger cousins Saturday night and ended up watching that show. I was shocked and disappointed at the horrible imagery portrayed in that program, notably the glorification of violence by, and to, women. Why is a 15-year-old girl who is taught to brutalize other people portrayed as a cool, attractive girl instead of a monster? 15 year old girls are supposed to be studying, playing sports, and going to parties, not kicking other women’s teeth out. Why was it funny when the three girls did unspeakable things to the nerdy boy at the end, which they didn’t even show? That program encourages terrible behavior by females. I would never, NEVER let my daughter watch that show.

    “Wizard’s fail.”

Didn’t Disney Channel receive a higher 9.2 million TV viewer rating number for its telecast of “Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana?”

    so I don’t think Disney’s very upset right now…

And didn’t “Hannah” put up huge numbers for the “He Could Be the One” telecast last month?
