from Claire Atkinson at Broadcasting & Cable:
Poor Paula Abdul. Now she’s got even more to cry about. TV boutique Media IQ has issued new findings that Paula is the least popular judge on American Idol. The company tracked second-by-second ratings on Fox’s American Idol from TiVo numbers and found that people fast forward through her comments more than any other judge.

WOW thats shocking to hear. I dont watch the show but i heard a lot of people not liking that new judge Kara. I still think the shows ratings will still go down since Paula isnt there.
Most likely the ratings will go up due to the publicity, or at least remain even, which in today’s world is going up.
Of course, that could just be initially.
I think the ratings are going to be through the roof for the first few audition weeks and then they’re going to crater. The chemistry of those three original judges WORKED, brilliantly. Everyone knows it. Nobody cares about Kara Diougardi — who is the one that I always fast forwarded through by the way, usually I just watched Simon and Paula, but had Kara not been there I would have watched Randy too.
Without the original chemistry and without Paula’s insights, American Idol is going to become the most mean-spirited show on television and it’s going to drive some people away, if for no other reason than it just doesn’t feel the same — which I think we’re going to hear a lot.
So You Think You Can Dance is going to need to be big in Fall, because FOX is going to need something big to replace American Idol soon. If not, they’re going to sink hard.
AAAAH HAHA HAAHAAHAA
“I’m the type of moron who gazes at American Idol, but my time’s too important for what Paula has to say.”
Best finding ever.
Tivo users don’t watch ads usually so why should the networks care what they think?
I don’t get it. How many people actually TiVo a show like American Idol anyways? It can’t be that large, so what matters.
RJ, a lot of people. Idol usually gets big gains in Live+7.
RJ, for the most recent season Tuesday’s Idol averaged almost 5 million DVR viewers (4.94M), and Wednesday averaged 4.45M. Idol didn’t have the highest percentage of DVR viewers because its audience is so huge. But, in the absolute, more people DVR’d idol than any other show. Most of the DVR viewing occurred the same night the show aired.
That’s harsh. Funny though.
its scary how they know we actually fast forward…i knew they can keep track of dvr shows but not that much
They can track things like this? This could be a new way to tell exactly what things bring in viewers and what don’t!
And I have to disagree, the judges did NOT have good chemistry. Paula had a nasty habit of interrupting Simon, which cannot be more annoying since his commentary is often the most important. She never offers anything other than joke fodder for The Soup, and she’s one of the key reasons I grew incredibly tired the show and began to hate it.
The audience hates Simon in a good way, he’s the guy everyone loves to boo. He’s one of the big reasons for the show’s success, mainstream audiences love having a “bad guy”. Paula was once the only woman on the panel, but now there’s another, so apparently all that’s left for her is to be the person people fast forward through.
This is micro monitoring of people is scary on several levels – today a few jobs, tomorrow all jobs, next week Gattaca!
Its also worrisome that a measurable number of people are so badly afflicted by ADD that they have to fast forward through a few mumbles by a judge.
Good thing TV is dying! *g*
Ah, Kara’s just as bad as Paula.
“You shouldn’t sing new Aerosmith, like Dream On! You should sing old Aerosmith, like Cryin’!”
So the moronic element is still fully accounted for even with Paula gone.
