Sunday's episode of True Blood notched 4.43 million viewers, up versus the previous week (and previous series high) when it had 4.27  million.    It also had a 2.3/6 (rating/share) with adults 18-49, up a tenth from last week's 2.2 rating.  Note: these numbers are only for the initial airing and don't include the encore airing.

Will it hit 5 million by the season finale?  The show keeps growing, and even its DVD sales are going strong after 11 weeks, and has pushed past 1.2 million units and $42 million in DVD sales in the USA.  It's a pretty phenomenal story for HBO, and the show just keeps getting better.  The last couple of weeks were great.

I still haven't seen any other numbers for HBO (Hung, Entourage) but if I see them will post them. Update: I never saw the viewer numbers but courtesy of TV Bill (and then the same info later from Prada) here are the 18-49 numbers:

HUNG: 1.6/4
Entourage: 1.7/5

  1. cool

I think TB will hit 7 million viewers for the Season Finale, which is amazing for HBO

@ Cool, I still don’t think the numbers are anything near what The Sopranos and Sex and The City ever posted. Right?

  3. Shem

What is it than keeps people hooked to this show. HBO has bad shows.

  4. wow, 7 million would be 75% growth with only 4 episodes to go. I’d bet against you, Cool, but not a lot :-)

  5. Sleeper — not for the initial airings, it’s still not close. but according to HBO, when you count in encores, and on-demand, it’s getting closer.

  6. SleeperActiveCompass

Networks would probably kill for that 2.3 skew too!

I’m pleased that HBO is doing well with True Blood but isn’t counting encores and on demand cheating, Showtime do it as well and FX used it when Damages was pulling in under 1m viewers.

I think True Blood will hit over 5m by its season finale.

    This is great news:)
I think it may hit at least 5.5 million by the finale, theres a 2 week gap between the penultimate episode and the finale so HBO will promote the hell out of it, but i’m glad it’s doing so well, but the good news will have to stop sometime:(

  10. This show keeps getting better and better.

Here’s a recap of the last episode.

Great that the ratings have been so high. Although personally, I’m not liking Hung. I think its numbers have alot to do with following T.B.

Hot damn! True Blood is doing the thing!

Did/has any other scripted cable show gotten such 18-49 #’s starting from when the 08-09 season started? Burn Notice had a high and its demo #’s are smaller, and it consistently beats Closer in 18-49 so that’s a no-go.

  13. tom

jon… no… the 4.4 million is live. they add on the other viewers from repeats later

  14. TVBill

    I don’t have viewer numbers, but I do have A18-49. FYI –

    HUNG: 1.6/4
    ENTOURAGE: 1.7/5

  15. JS

It’s those cliffhangers! No other show seems to have as short of a timeline as True blood does, except 24. I know Allan Ball said the whole season only spans 2 weeks, and it keeps the action moving.

  16. Jen

Yay for True Blood!! It was a great episode. Although I’m still not feeling Mary Ann and her weird ways. I’m really hoping for the Eric/Sookie thing to start up soon though can’t wait for that!

  17. FairyPants

They are leaving a 2 week gap before the season finale?! WTF HBO?!?! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO US?!

  18. Dan

Its nice to see that HBO is getting another it with True Blood. Its funny that while the show only did OK in its first season, after HBO gave the confidence for another season the series does amazing. And this seems to be the year of vampires, last years Moonlight, Twighlight and New Moon, The Vampire Diaries and of course True Blood. Entourage and Hung are the shows I actually watch so I’m glad True Blood is helping out these two great series.

  19. WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Against the season finale of L&O:CI no less. All right! I’m predicting 5.4 million for the finale.

And FairyPants, HBO is taking Labor Day weekend off.

  20. I’m guessing close to 5.5 million live viewers by the finale.

Robert, want to start another guessing game?
