Dollhouse has an order for 13 more episodes.  So does Chuck.  Which is more likely to see a 14th episode?

who cares about either one of them they both suck

Normally I try to avoid the onslaught of rabid fans, even though I like Chuck a lot.

While I think Silverman getting the can at NBC was a good thing, I don’t think it was necessarily a good thing for Chuck. I think he showed a lot of patience with the show, and if it doesn’t perform marginally well this spring…then I don’t see it getting a back 9.

I stopped watching Dollhouse after episode 2….and it still baffles me on how it got renewed. But, I think they’ll be patient with Whedon again. Their new tv series don’t really look all too promising (Human Target, etc.)

  3. I’ll go with “Chuck”

  4. Where’s the poll? And stick TSCC in there as well. Let’s break the site on this super slow day!

I love both shows but I’m going to say Chuck gets the additional order.

I like Dollhouse. I’m not sure why so many people think it’s a bad show. It shows a lot of potential and can really be huge. At the same time NBC has cancelled so many good shows that people probably stay away from NBC altogether which affects Chuck. They are both good shows and am glad they both got renewed.

I’d go with Dollhouse, I’m a fan, but I think Fox is trying to ride out Eliza’s contract.

  8. I’d say Chuck.

Nothing better than big fat troll to start the comments.

Anyway back on topic, while it’s bit early to tell, i think there Chuck has better chance, lets not forget that while it’s ratings were not great for sure, they were very consistant throughout the season and above avg for NBC at least, while Dollhouse were dropping like stone and lost like half of it’s audience since the premiere (and those premiere ratings weren’t great to begin with).

Also there seem to be a lot of talk about extending the show into the summer. Following the train of thoughts from NickC article, i think it’s very possible that NBC sees Chuck as their version of Burn Notice (although ligter in tone and more comedic) and that it may actually do quite well as a summer show. At least i think it will have better chance than the series they premiered this year, since pretty much all of the tanked.

The only question is are they willing to risk again and order those 9 for summer before they see the actual ratings or will they wait for the 2-3 eps to air.

I’m gonna go with Dollhouse. Fox just doesn’t seem to have a lot of hour long pilots ready to order to series, so unless Peter Rice decides to dump Moment of Truth episodes, or House reruns, or Fifth Grader, a back nine probably isn’t too difficult to justify if the budget is low enough. And do they really want to use the Friday Death Slot on the Richard Schiff procedural, or potentially pricey episodes of Masterwork?

I always love opinions expressed with few words (re: Robert the 1st Commmentor). Generally, however, they are expressed with few words because the one holding the opinion lacks the intellect to express the opinion coherently or with sufficient reason.

“They suck!” Well, if they suck, why IS IT that “they suck?” Because YOU think they suck?? (One of the shows – CHUCK – although it hasn’t achieved high ratings numbers due to it’s brutal Monday evening time slot – has received a great deal of critical praise – hardly something a show that “sucked” would recieve). Simply saying, “They Suck!” is like me saying that because I’m a Cubs fan, that the White Sox suck! Truth is – as much as I wouldn’t want to admit it – that the Sox are having a pretty decent season and DON’T, in fact, SUCK! But, everyone’s entitled to their opinion – even Robert the Commentor, whose opinion, in MY opinion, SUCKS! So there!! ;)

I’ve seen all episodes of Chuck. I’ll admit, I’m a huge fan. There’s nothing else like it on TV. I’ve receently seen the first 5 episodes of Dollhouse on DVD. Overall, I think Chuck is a better show because it combines so many different elements and manages to keep them together (most of the time). Let’s be honest, they both have ridiculous premises, but if you get beyond that – and it’s not that hard to do – then you can evaluate the shows based on how well they present themselves based on those premises.

I would LIKE to see Dollhouse improve. (For example, after getting “wiped,” can Echo say something ELSE besides, “Did I fall asleep?” or whatever similar thing it is that she ALWAYS says?). Perhaps Dollhouse will improve. I’ve only seen part of Season 1. I’ve heard others comment, however, that the show struggles at times. I loved Joss Whedon’s “Firefly,” and I don’t see any reason why he can’t make this show work given time. But so far, I’m finding it just “O.K.” entertainment. Not, however, a show that I’d run out and buy Subway footlongs in order to help save. At least not yet.

Bottom line, I think that Chuck – especially based on all the pub. it received in the “save it from cancellation campaign” has a better shot at going beyond 13 episodes next season, especially if NBC uses the Olympics to properly hype its return, and especially if NBC is really serious about “summmer season TV.” The other reason is that FOX has higher rated shows than NBC. Chuck can probably survive with lower ratings numbers because it’s on NBC. If it was on FOX, it may already have been given the axe. Dollhouse doesn’t have that advantage.

Anway, that’s my take on it – whether it “sucks” or not.

  12. enami

    My close friend loves “Chuck.
I’m not a fan of either one…but will say…(being optimistic) that both will see #14.

  13. Pete

    Neither will see a #14…

  14. Hudson

“I would LIKE to see Dollhouse improve. (For example, after getting “wiped,” can Echo say something ELSE besides, “Did I fall asleep?” or whatever similar thing it is that she ALWAYS says?).”

If you keep watching past those 5 episodes, you’ll find your answer to this question and see improvements to the quality of the show. ;)

  15. Rick Holy

    @Hudson. thanks! I’ll keep watching.

  16. Dan

I’d pick the obvious, Chuck. Dollhouse will be done with 13 eps by December, However if Chuck doesnt get a fourth season, its possible to get additional episodes ordered. But if ratings arent good it would seem like the series is likely to be axed by May.

  17. Buddy

Dollhouse, clearly. It starts in the fall and may stick around all season due to low expectations on Friday and love of all things Whedon. Chuck being put at midseason is basically a way of cutting 9 episodes off the tally and lowering the costs for a season.

  18. Susan

    Slow news day?

Of course I’ll go with Dollhouse. While it’s far from perfection, at least it’s highly watchable, which I can’t say about Chuck.

  19. T

only way chuck gets a 14th is if it gets a season 4 since it premieres in March theres no time for more episodes, Dollhouse is actually on FOX’s fall AND midseason schedule which should be a hint that they plabn on giving it the 22 either way

  20. Eric

I’d say both have an equal shot.
Dollhouse will have it’s production value so low that the risk involved with launching a new series or continuing Dollhouse with it’s low viewership won’t be worth it. It’ll die after a third season.

Chuck will succeed because everything else at NBC will fail.
    Miserably.
