Ok, it's a slow Sunday, plus I couldn't find any video to embed yet of Padraig Harrington hitting it into the water twice on #8 and scoring an 8 on the par 3.

I think the commercial they stick in front of the clip lasted longer than the race (though I'm not sure you'll be subjected to an ad in the clip below):

I saw this just now but didn’t realise that it was a new record. Good for Jamaica.

  2. is “Bolt” his real name? or has he earned that nickname, i wonder

  3. I think he’s on stimulants or steroids, but there’s no evidence so whatever…

  4. Gusar

@The1337: I’m sure he has been thoroughly checked before and after the Olympics and then also before this championship.

Besides, Gay ran a 9.71, US record and an impressive figure in itself. Are you going to say he’s doped too? I say these people are just that good.

  5. I was flipping through the channels and actually saw this live. Yes, Bolt is his real name. It is HIGHLY unlikely that he’s on anything illegal since all the runners in this event are heavily tested. More tested than nearly any other athlete. Bolt acted more immature than how he did at the Olympics and, in the process, set a new world record. And the difference between Bolt and Cay was .13 second. Think about that.

  6. Jamaica is very lax on drug testing, and there are plenty of drugs out there that are undetected. I wouldn’t be surprised of Gay were on them as well.

It doesn’t matter what country he’s from, they’re all subjected to the same testing on the olympic and world championship level.

  8. I’m saying that the Jamaican sports culture encourages drug usage since they throw out positive tests and aren’t stringent with rules and rule enforcement.

  9. All athletes regardless of sport are rigorously tested many times during the year, both in and out of competition. Given that Usain Bolt is the fastest man in the world, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was also the most tested athlete in the world.

However, there was a news item on British tv yesterday after his incredible run which looked into how he could run so fast and not only is Bolt 6’5″ and one of the tallest sprinters ever, he takes just 40 strides to cover 100 metres. That’s why he makes it look so easy.

Bolt’s only 22 years old and will only get better with age. In fact, he probably won’t reach his peak until the Olympics after London 2012. To think how fast Bolt could run by then beggars belief when Michael Johnson, arguably one of the greatest runners ever, thinks Bolt could achieve 9.4 seconds by London 2012.

If Bolt is taking drugs as you sublimely believe. Then even after being tested far more with his fellow Jamaican athletes than one has to believe that something in the Jamaican soil is seriously messing up our food that the IOC and IAAF scientists cannot detect.
After all, it must not be natural food.

“All athletes regardless of sport are rigorously tested many times during the year, both in and out of competition.”

It doesn’t matter how often he or anyone else is tested. The ability to detect particular performance-enhancing steroids/drugs paces well behind the ability to design new ones for which no detective test exists. There is no test for human growth hormone. There is no standard amount (like testosterone) that is present in the body and varies widely from person to person.

It’s a shame that athletic competition is so corrupt with chemical and illegal supplement use that any athletic achievement falls under suspicion, but include me among the doubters. I suspect that he’s on something and possibly on more than one thing.

The real shame is that there is nothing supremely magical about any of that stuff. A couch potato isn’t transformed into a world-class athlete by using any of that stuff. An athlete using performance enhancing drugs still must train hard, if not harder, than everyone else. It’s just that the drugs give that athlete the ability to train harder, longer, and recover faster than what would be normal for that athlete’s already high-level of performance without the drugs.

The1337 I think if it’s any drug use Jamaicans have it’ll be weed and that isn’t performance enhancing. Just face the fact that he’s a tall man that moves his feet really fast which is why he runs so fast. Sorry America he’s just quicker than your boys and some of you just can’t handle it.

Looking at Bolt run, it just looks like God-given freakish genetic talent.

Do we have to ruin every impressive sports achievement by assuming it’s drugs :/
