UPDATED Sunday TV Ratings: Tiger loses PGA Championship, but CBS wins

Updated: Pretty much as expected, though the 18-49 was much closer once the fast nationals came in with CBS barely edging out FOX.  FOX animation reruns dominated the night with adults 18-34.

I have not yet seen the fast national numbers, but based on the early metered market numbers, CBS dominated with a half hour or so of PGA Championship overrun.  Tiger lost out to Y.E. Yang, the first time ever that Tiger had lost a major tournament when he went into the last round with the lead.   Congrats to Y.E. Yang!  To say Tiger lost is probably unfair,  Y.E. Yang won.  Unless you want to blame  Tiger for Y.E. Yang chipping in from around 80 feet for eagle on 14.

Anyway...because of the half hour overrun and the PGA Championship being a live event, the preliminary numbers for CBS will be fairly worthless.  I know Big Brother fans want to see how the show did on the heels of  Chima Simone getting bounced (it looks like that episode will actually be Tuesday), and I'll post the fast nationals for Big Brother when I see them, though again, due to the overrun they will be highly subject to change.

Otherwise not much went on last night. I had a dream that Who Wants to Be a Millionaire snagged 13.8 million and in the dream I was thinking "Ah, the old gal still has some life in her."  But alas, a.) I probably need some more time off if I am dreaming about the ratings for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and b.) based on the early metered markets (4.4/8 household rating/share)  there's no way it got 10 million viewers, let alone almost 14 million.

Defying Gravity continues on its flight  to ratings irrelevancy with a 1.7/3 (household rating/share).  Hard to say that "Shark Tanked"  based on the metered market numbers (3.4/6), but Shark Tank doesn't seemed poised to do very much in the demo.  We'll see when we see the fast nationals.

I didn't see how two hours of Merlin did in the metered markets, but I will post the numbers once I see the fast nationals.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
