NATIONAL NIELSEN RATINGS FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 10 - 16, 2009

FOX kicked off last week with the 2009 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS and achieved steady numbers throughout the week from fan favorites including HELL’S KITCHEN, COPS, AMERICA’S Most Wanted and Family Guy.  The network achieved a 1.5/5 rating among Adults 18-49 for the week and continues to be the No. 1 network of the summer.
On Monday night the 2009 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS posted a 1.4/4 among Adults 18-49 and grew steadily throughout the night among Adults 18-49 (1.2 > 1.4 > 1.5 > 1.5) and Teens (2.0 > 2.5 > 2.7 > 2.8). In addition, the show gave FOX a strong win among Teens, outperforming the combined 4-network competition for the night by +56% (2.5 vs. 1.6 for ABC, CBS, NBC, CW).

Tuesday night turned up the heat with a strong performance by HELL’S KITCHEN, which achieved a 3.2/11 among Adults 18-49 and won its 8p hour across virtually all key viewer demos.  The culinary competition show was also the highest rated program of the night among Adults 18-34.  In the 9p hour, MORE TO LOVE held steady with a 1.7/5 among Adults 18-49. 

The network’s consistently successful Saturday lineup once again proved to draw audiences this week. Back-to-back episodes of COPS each won their 8p and 830p timeslots among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34/25-54, Total Viewers, and key male and female demos. AMERICA’S Most Wanted followed at 9p and also placed first in hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34/25-54, Total Viewers, and key male and female demos.

On Sunday night encore episodes of FOX’s animated shows outshined the majority of original programming that evening.  Family Guy episodes at 9p and 9:30p each won their respective half hours among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, Teens and most key demos.  In fact, the back-to-back episodes of Family Guy beat originals on ABC by +33% among Adults 18-49 (2.4/7 vs. 1.8/5 for Shark Tank) and on CBS by +50% (2.4/7 vs. 1.6/4 for Big Brother/ There Goes The Neighborhood).

FOX had 8 of the Top 20 programs among Adults 18-34:  FAMILY GUY (No. 1), FAMILY GUY 8:30p (No. 2 tie), HELL’S KITCHEN (No. 2 tie), FAMILY GUY 9:30p (No. 4), THE Simpsons (No. 6), MORE TO LOVE (No. 13), 2009 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS SP (No. 16 tie) and THE Simpsons 7:30p (No. 16 tie).

FOX had 7 of the Top 20 programs among Teens: 2009 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS SP (No. 1), FAMILY GUY 9:30p (No. 2), FAMILY GUY (No. 3), FAMILY GUY 8:30p (No. 4), THE Simpsons (No. 7), HELL’S KITCHEN (No. 9) and THE Simpsons 7:30p (No. 11).

FOX had 1 of the Top 20 programs in Total Viewers: HELL’S KITCHEN (No. 14).

MONDAY

The 2009 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS posted a 1.4/4 among Adults 18-49 and saw growth throughout the night among Adults 18-49 (1.2 > 1.4 > 1.5 > 1.5) and Teens (2.0 > 2.5 > 2.7 > 2.8).

FOX ranked No. 2 for the night in Adults 18-49 and won the night in Adults 18-34, Teens and Women 18-34.  FOX outperformed the combined 4-net competition for the night among Teens by +56% (2.5 vs. 1.6 for ABC, CBS, NBC, CW).

Week four of HELL’S KITCHEN achieved a 3.2/11 among Adults 18-49 and won the 8p hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34/25-54, Teens, Women 18-49/18-34/25-54 and Men 18-49/18-34/25-54.  HELL’S KITCHEN was the highest rated program of the night among Adults 18-34.

Week three of MORE TO LOVE posted a 1.7/5 among Adults 18-49 and ranked No. 3 in its 9p hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.

FOX ranked No. 2 for the night among Adults 18-49 and Teens and No. 1 in Adults 18-34, Women 18-34 and Men 18-34.

WEDNESDAY

FOX ranked No. 2 for the night among Adults 18-49 and No. 1 in Adults 18-34, Teens, Women 18-34 and Men 18-49/18-34.
