true blood 22

Update: especially when its adults 18-49 rating was a 2.8!

Sunday night’s (August 30, 2009) 9:02pm airing of True Blood averaged 5.185 million viewers in live plus same day DVR viewing.  It was the first week in a while where a new record for average audience wasn’t set.  For now, last week’s record of 5.332 million still stands.  What will the season finale bring on September 13?

Based on average viewing, the 9:02pm airing was the ninth most-watched among all cable programs for the week.

  1. I’ve been waiting eagerly for this data, as I was bitten by the True Blood bug this weekend! I’ve almost watched the whole 2nd season already! I’m guessing the absolute weirdness of last week’s episode probably scared away some of the newbies that watched last week. I’ll admit it- Episode 10 was very, VERY strange. And Episode 11 was even stranger. Still, I think the deafening buzz will counteract the resistance to extreme oddity by some people. I foresee 5.5 million for the finale in 2 weeks.

I’m guessing 6 million for the season finale

I blame the lack of Eric in last weeks episode as one of the reasons in the slight ratings drop. Eric and his budding romantic relationship with Sookie has definitely brought in a huge amount of buzz for the show.

  4. Lanie Grace

Love the show, Love the show!

But I am a little at a loss for the ending of Aug 31 episode?

The finale looks completely insane…true blood always has a cliff hanger and picks up from that point, so I’m sure it will be something to see. 6 million, sounds reasonable.

  6. Visan

Still a big-ass number! True Blood is fabulous TV!

  7. damn the headline should’ve been “True Blood, no new viewing record but 5.185 million is still a big ass number!” I might change it ;-)

I think not airing on Labor Day weekend will work in its favor, the buzz can build and new and old fans will be brimming with anticipation. I could see it at least snaring really really close to the 6 million mark in live viewers.

  9. T

the last episode was an awful filler worst episode of the season

  10. snickers

Yes Monday’s episode was let down, because the last 2 weeks were awesome

Being from Canada, I am wondering how the ratings are doing on HBO Canada.

  12. sweiland75, we don’t have any info on viewing for HBO Canada. If someone else has a link to any info on that, hopefully they will post it.

I think the two week-break will cause a major stall in momentum. Big mistake HBO. Who wants to bet the finale will have lower ratings than this week’s episode? I’ll wager five imaginary dollars.

  14. There’s no episode next week due to Labor Day. I have a feeling the numbers may be lower than expected but still probably set a record.

  15. Well, we finally got to see Evan Rachel Wood as the Vampire Queen, which was pretty cool. And it’s fun to see Bill smarting under the control of vampires more powerful than he is.

I was surprised when he punched Eric in the face because Eric can kick his butt, not to mention being the sheriff whose authority Bill is supposed to respect.

Pam was funny, too. Still smarting over those shoes!

  16. cohen

cool, hope for more. I actually didn’t put in the adult element as to why it gets lower ratings than a Disney movie

Its not a record this week but its not a drop to like 2-3 million. Its .15 million less, 5 million viewers is still good, and I’m sure the season finale will break records. Maybe 5.5 – 5.8. I’m sensing a guess the season finale ratings for True Blood contest???

  18. Nikka

Yes, lack of Eric scenes definitely contributed to this drop. I know I was not as excited going into the show.

It is just me or are the lot of u Blind.Dont get me wrong.I love True Blood and i will continue watching it.But its getting so silly.I mean the writers gotta be eating the hearts of other writers if u get my meaning. It getting STUPID.Sookie walks around Tara’s mom and couldnt grab the rifle from an old woman while wimpy ass was shaking in his boots .Then she lets Tara go and then she throws something at her face to run away.Sam sacrifices himself to let his friends go and then he turns into a Fly.Whats up with this show. Its really getting Stupid. Why are people thinking its a Great Show. This is the same guy who created 6 foot under.Come people get real.I love it cause its about Blood and gore and Vamps. But the writing is very poor.

I don’t understand people saying that who was in an episode had any effect on intial viewership. You don’t know whether Eric or anyone else will be in the episode, or for how long, until you watch it. So I can’t see how this would affect viewership.
