With Dylan Ratigan & Dr. Nancy, A Change Didn't Do MSNBC Good

Categories: Cable News Ratings

I'm sure there were high hopes at MSNBC a few months ago when Dylan Ratigan's Morning Meeting (9-11am)  and the Dr. Nancy (12pm) show launched that they'd rejuvenate weekday daytime ratings.

But, sadly for MSNBC, at least initially, those 2 shows have tallied weaker ratings than the shows in the same timeslots a year ago. Ratigan's Meeting is down 26% in the cable news targeted adults 25-54 demo, and Dr. Nancy's show is down 43% in that demo, as well as 27% in viewers.

So far in this case, a change did not do MSNBC good.

I’m not surprised in this attentive deficitiant society.

Your pseudo-intellectual, faux-based comments aside, MSNBC doesn’t tailor to the society’s wants. You shouldn’t bitch when they get low ratings.

BTW – how long does it take you to look up those words on Word’s thesaurus?

  3. Chief

How is this surprising in the slightest? There has been no news whatsoever this month whereas last year around this time was when Sarah Palin had just been chosen as the VP pick for McCain.

  4. shoey

how does MSNBC stay in buiness? their audience is minscule, they can’t possibly make enough from advertising to pay the bills.

  5. gbd

Thanks for the personal attack Daniel. I seemed to have touced a nerve? Perhaps you can start to think for yourself. BTW it took about as long as it took you to look up those words up in a dictionary. I know words you aren’t familiar with can be sooooo intimidating. It must be Pres Obama’s fault!

Very good point! And, I agree.

shoey, you do know that CNN isn’t in a much better position? Their primetime ratings continuously fluctuate, but generally seem to be a little worse than MSNBC, and even at 5-7 PM, MSNBC and CNN trade wins from day to day.

HLN (which has consistently amazing demos considering its generally low total audience numbers) and, of course, Fox News, are the only ones sitting pretty right about now.

LMAO! No news this month? So you have no tv in mommys basement therefore missing all your libbys you voted for hiding like cowards or getting taught a REAL LESSON in DEMOCRACY and not some Obama, Axelrod and the Libby party ASTRO-TURFING. You are either a Keith 4 chin Olbermann lover, a mommys basement dwelling adult child or just an idiot.

  9. Please post the ratings of Fox and CNN for these time periods to give some perspective. If they’re also down by the same percentages, then that means one thing. If they’re the same or better than last year, this data then means another thing.

Also, I’m surprised that comments have been allowed as they normally aren’t when it comes to the cable news networks … as some of the commentators here are showing why.

I feel for Dylan Ratigan. I couldn’t care less about Dr. Nancy. Dylan needs to go back CNBC, the only NBC worth a damn. MSNBC is a channel for wacko conspiracy morons and ingnorant haters. Ratigan hurt himself when he brought on the perpetually indignant Contessa Brewer. I had hoped he would have done a unique financially based show but he’s trying to do some of everything, most of which ends up being just more of the tired old MSNBC pablum.

MSNBC is so full of idiots that when they get an occasional normal person, the network actually becomes toxic to that persons career.

LOL @ Dylan’s ratings….CNBC beats him in the same timeslot…ouch.

If you call that an attack, I feel for you because life must be a touchy subject.

Perhaps you could before prescribing it to others?

BTW it took about as long as it took you to look up those words up in a dictionary.

I think MSNBC thinks this is a golf tournament and they need the lowest score.

As long as MSNBC is committed to insulting two thirds of the American people, they will never do well. Conservative and moderate people will continue to seek news where they can learn what is going on in the world without being insulted.
I really just wish that they would go away. They would serve us better if they would just broadcast Leave it to Beaver, Dobbie Gillis, Father Knows Best and Lock-up and leave the news and politics to adults.

Wow comments open on this topic too….i guess this site figures if theyre gonna take the charts away at least they can leave open the comment section.

  16. Corey3rd

all news channels are pathetic in their avoiding real reporting and just give us the same hometeam pundits

  17. Josh Emerson

I’m wondering why the comments were left open on this one. Do we really need to hear what the conservatards have to say about MSNBC? Let them go back to watching Faux News so they can hate the president some more.

  18. bf

Ratings were opened up to let liberals stink up the joint.

  19. James Voos

My wife and I used to watch MSNBC all the time. My wife, who is more liberal than I, was more of a fan. Since Keith Obermann came to MSNBC, it has been going down hill. There is no news anymore on this network, and it is focused on bashing the right, rather than providing meaningful analysis. Where is the in-depth analysis of the health care bills? Where is the analysis of the deficit? No where to be found.

My wife and I have turned it off, but unfortunately, there are not very good choices remaining. CNN and Larry Kings softball, entertainment industry focused interviews, etc. Fox is a little better, but they do too much bashing of the left.

I am tired of the bias in all the media. How about we have some real, honest, non-emotional discussion about the problems facing this country and pull together?

  20. Ron

MSNBC should put the new Jay Leno show on in place of the first hour Dylan. I’m kinda kidding, but Leno is about to save NBC’s bacon in prime time.
