More than 100 million viewers watched Dateline NBC this summer

Rather than inject any opinion in to this, I have written to NBC to find out whether this is unduplicated reach who watched at least 6 minutes somewhere over the summer, or whether it is just the total of the P2+ averages for the individual airings (which would include duplication):

"Dateline" Topped "20/20" in Head-to-Head Competition on Friday nights

NEW YORK – September 9, 2009 – More than 100 million viewers watched "Dateline NBC" this summer for breaking news specials and the newsmagazine's signature crime and investigative reports. From May 26 through August 30, 102 million total viewers tuned in to "Dateline" on Mondays (10-11 pm ET), Fridays (9-11 pm ET), and Sundays (7-8 pm ET), including specials on June 25, July 3, and July 7.

In head-to-head competition on Fridays from May 29 through August 28, "Dateline" topped ABC's "20/20" in homes (+26%), total viewers (+26% or 1.194 million), rating adults 18-49 (+17%) and rating adults 25-54 (+27%).

For the summer, "Dateline" led ABC's primetime newsmagazines in total viewers (+889,000), rating adults 18-49 (+8%) and rating adults 25-54 (+12%), based on the averages of "20/20" and all versions of "Primetime," excluding specials.

"Dateline NBC" also ranked in Nielsen's Top 20 primetime programs for 6 of the past 14 weeks. Rating standouts include the Monday, August 3 episode "A Stranger in the House" reported by Hoda Kotb, which ranked No. 16 for the week of August 2, with 7.1 million total viewers and the Friday, August 28 episode featuring "Flying High at Cocktail Cove" reported by Keith Morrison and "Disappearance Before Dawn" reported by Dennis Murphy, ranking No. 18 for the week of August 24 with 6.5 million total viewers.
