WINS THE WEEK – BEATING THE COMPETITION IN TOTAL VIEWERS, A25-54 AND HOMES
NEW YORK – September 9, 2009 – According to Nielsen Media Research data, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of August 31-September 6 in all categories. For the week, “Nightly” delivered 7.620 million total viewers, +473K more than ABC “World News'” 7.147 million, and +2.175 million more than CBS “Evening News'” 5.445 million. Season-to-date, “Nightly” leads “World News” by +803K viewers and is the only newscast to grow year-to-year.
Please note: ABC is based on a four-day average with Friday excluded.
“Nightly” has now won for 47 consecutive weeks in total viewers, and for 41 straight weeks in A25-54.
Among the key demographic adults 25-54, “Nightly News” delivered a 1.7 rating, ahead of ABC’s 1.6 rating and CBS’ 1.2 rating. “Nightly” led “World News” by +177K in the key A25-54 demo for the week. Season-to-date, Nightly leads World News by +323K A25-54 viewers.
In homes, “Nightly News” was No. 1 with a 5.1 rating and an 11 share. Second place ABC posted a 4.8/10 HH rating and CBS had a 3.7/8 HH rating.
On its digital platforms, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” continued its strong performance with more than 2.4 million online streams for the week ending September 5, 2009.
