orielly about hit that 4 million mark again
Id be curious to know if you have any charts to see his ratings over the last year
There used to be an O’Reilly vs. Olbermann weekly post with short and long term graphs, but that ceased around when comments were closed. Any change of starting that up again Bill?
It’s pretty amazing how variable the cable news race is (other than Fox news almost always sticking at the top). This was just a fantastic day for MSNBC in every way. They absolutely tore apart CNN and HLN in nearly every way, even the late night reruns going against the new programs on the other networks. I wonder if that is why these numbers were delayed, because Nielsen had to doublecheck them to make sure there wasn’t something wrong.
Wednesday’s ratings will be really high, esp. for CNN. Sorry i missed to adress with the “You Lie!” outburst. Did any of this ever happen to Bush?
How come people can say that an African American is racist? One could be bias, but racism is a very harsh word. I saw a woman crying on tv saying Obama would have indoctrinated her child if that child watched the back to school message. We live in a world where the abnormal is the norm and normality is disappearing more and more each day. People may not agree but- its a mad, mad world!!
Olbermann had a great airing Tuesday. He addressed some of Glenn Becks fear filled statements and how he goes after mid-level figures in the current administration instead of the leader. Great show! I completley missed the You lie! remark, but I’m not surprised that one of them did that. Mainly to distract people from whatever the president was trying to say. I’m impressed though by how well MSNBC did all day.
omega bragging about MSNBC beating CNNand HLN is like the Yankees bragging about beating a Little League team.
If getting your butt kicked by a 3-1 margin is having a great day , I’d hate to see MSNBC when they have a bad day
Mike, you are correct about the history of the O’Reilly v. Olbermann ratings chart, but sadly the traffic that it got wasn’t worth the effort that it took, so that’s why it ended. The fact that it ended around the same time as the comments embargo began was just coincidence.
I love how Omega is throwing in the towel I guess, and talking about how great 2nd place is lol.
@Shem:
Yes Bush was booed and hissed while giving speeches. To claim otherwise is to purely ignore the truth. How can black people be racist? Racism knows no colors. To think a black person couldn’t be racist is very narrow minded. And as far as that woman goes, that seemed fake as could be to me. The woman wasn’t crying, just acting like it. Whether she felt that way honestly or was faking it she is a pinhead!
@ Sharon:
While Olberman had 1.2 million, O’Reilly had 3.8! Thats over 3 times as many! As far as Olberman claiming that Beck doesn’t go after Obama. I can’t believe Olberman would make such a ignorant claim. Olberman watches Beck everyday, probably records it, takes notes on his show etc. The whole point Beck is trying to make is about Obama. How can Olberman really be that stupid?
I am truly a middle of the road kind of guy. I watch both Msnbc and Fox. Olbermann, is a major turn off because all he can do is attack his competition at Fox and Sarah Palin. Fox goes after those in office or working in government. When I see Olbermann ratings, I often wonder if he is attacking O’Reilly, Hannity and Beck out of pure jealousy, because his comments about Fox alway sound very childish.
Kev makes a good point. Its hard to even want to try and see if Olberman is making a valid point, because he gets so silly, childish and unprofesional. I used to say this all the time about Beck. However Beck seems to have cut out some of his over the top antics lately. Makes him look much more profesional and easier to want to lisen to and maybe even believe.
@Shem:
One example of members of Congress booing GW Bush was the state of the union address in 2005. A web search might even get you the video.
Such behavior is inappropriate and disrespectful independent of the source.
Of course, there are the multiple times Harry Reid called the President a liar. The difference is Harry Reid never offered an apology and did it for the press outside of congressional assembly.
The fact remains that President Obama stated that proposed plans do not include illegal aliens, and that seniors’ health care would not be affected. The truth of these statements remains to be seen.
Question: Why does elimination of Medicare waste and fraud have to be part of a health care bill? Why can’t that be pursued right now?
Bill, any way we could get a monthly chart with just weekly viewer averages instead of daily plots? Seems like it might be less work, but I’m not the one doing it…
Mike, we don’t get weekly averages for “stripped” cable shows (those that air multiple days a week), instead we see the numbers for each airing, so assembling those averages would in fact be more work than it’d be worth. We do get monthly averages, and when there’s an interesting trend I often produce charts showing monthly numbers, but as a regular thing it, again, is unlikely to be worth it.
I luv the Glenn Beck show…!!! humm I LUV FOX — !!!
Ok, thanks
I love Fox news.
I cannot listen to the Obama drooling on the other networks.
makes me feel ill and
Every time Obama talks I get a feeling of despair. I can see my kids’ future getting flushed right down the ol’ youknowwhat.
Comparing Tuesday, September 8, 2009 with Tuesday, September 9, 2008, (http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/09/10/cable-news-ratings-for-tuesday-september-9/5040) we see that O’Reilly’s year to year viewership is down about 450,000 viewers from 4,303,000 viewers to 3,853,000 viewers and Hannity’s viewership is down 200,000 viewers from 3,217,000 viewers to 3,015,000 viewers.
Fox News was one of the bright spots for News Corp, which lost $3.4 billion last year (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8186701.stm). Losses on Harper Collins Publishing (40 million) and Myspace (89 million)and other enterprises more than made up for any Fox News profits.
Sir Rupert Murdoch may have to sell some assets to keep his struggling media empire alive. With cable competition expanding, it might be a good time for him to get rid of Fox News at a good price. At 78 years of age, he doesn’t need the troubles and problems that it brings him. His praising the profits made by Fox News recently was probably meant to attract a buyer. (http://www.kansasprogress.com/wordpress/index.php/2009/05/06/fox-news-doubles-operating-income/)
As a brand name, it is no longer associated in the public’s mind with news, but with racism, hatred, fanaticism, and poor, one-sided journalism.
Both O’Reilly and Hannity get paid about $12 million dollars per year, by far the highest pay of anybody on Cable. With even a small drop in ratings, Fox News could become a toxic asset for Sir Rupert Murdoch and News Corp.
