The shows are not similar, except for where they take place. That’s it. Their themes are TOTALLY different. Saying they are similar would be like saying The Office and Mad Men are similar because they take place in an office (well, mostly). Or if you want to stick with classrooms, Community would be considered nearly identical to Saved by the Bell.

Julia, you are one of the smarter people on this site, but I think the two shows are rediculously different.

Of course the main reason I changed the channel was simply to avoid watching Comrade Obama trying to woo the crowd with soaring rhetoric. Talk about overexposure. He is like a school boy pleading “please like my plan, pleaseeeeeee pretty please? Aint I great?”

Last week one cable network averaged more than 3.2 million in prime time, ESPN, and only because they had a pre-season NFL game.

Some weeks not a single cable network will average 3.2 million viewers in prime-time, and it’s unusual to have more than a handful at the most on a given week.

Needless to say, no cable network, ever to my knowledge, has averaged more than *twice* 3.2 million viewers in primetime.

As for individual cable shows, 3.2 million average viewers would put a show somewhat below #20 for last week, which would probably be typical on any given week.

You don’t know how many cable channels there are, do you? I don’t think even all of the top 20 cable nets get that many viewers.

Wipeout was probably low due to a combination of a few factors: Actual competition from Glee, it wasn’t on at its normal time because Obama talked about 10 or 15 minutes too long (also will screw up DVR numbers…I didn’t see the whole thing because it cut off way too early), and because they dumped the host Jill this week and replaced her with an Australian blonde (this week was the Australian edition…strange), though it’s just temporary.

Also, I find it hilarious that 3.2 million is the best ratings that the CW has had since March. A good half of cable channels have more or even double that number for their shows. But that’s the CW for you.

By the way, I’ve read the mention of Standoff’s premiere in 2006 on Fox got a 4.7 but that was after the season premiere of House that got 7.1 (19 million viewers) which was really impressive because it premiered around this time too.

I don’t think Fox would jump the gun that fast. It won’t even be up against its full competition for two more weeks. After that, maybe we’ll see a back nine pick up. But I’m guessing we won’t until at least mid-October.

Somewhere, Dawn Ostroff must be so jealous.

I think of the regular cast only one person is faculty. (Unfortunately, I don’t think John Oliver is not a regular because he wouldn’t give up TDS.)

You aren’t missing a lot if you didn’t get into it after those episodes. I actually stuck it out for the full season of TB, and I just don’t get why it’s so huge. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not HORRIBLE. It just didn’t grab me. That’s how I was with Lost and Heroes. I actually thought I would get sucked into those shows, gave each about 4-5 eps, and they didn’t grab me; so I stopped watching them. Both were well done, just not for me.

And I thought Community was more about the people in charge than the students. And I guess setting-wise, the shows are similar. But in no way are they similar themes.

The only explanation is… you’re definitively not from this planet!!! ^^

I guess I am immune as is my friend. We both tried really hard to watch the first season. Got through three episodes before giving up. I know, I know, it supposedly gets better by the end of the first season, but it’s not worth the effort to me.

nkinsey, I can see the comparison. They are both about awkward students, though Community strikes me as far more realistic and not as far into caricatures as Glee. (Though Community’s characters are all caricatures pretty much.)

…and I see the MONTHLY episodes of the Obama Tales are still on…it must be a TV show – there is so much fiction and drama on that program…I checked it out though – I think this is episode 8? Does anyone know when it will be on DVD…I missed the first few episodes – I’m a little lost…

and is it January yet? _ I’m ready for Jack Bauer – maybe he can deal with Health Care agents…his way…(hehe)

Umm…what? How in the world is Community ANYTHING like Glee? Unless you are saying that they are alike in the fact that there are no minotaurs in either of them (at least for now), I’m not following your logic.
