Gaining nearly 2 million Viewers based on a full week of viewing, the premiere of Disney Channel’s 77th original movie, “Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie,” became cable’s No. 2 scripted telecast of all time in Total Viewers (13.5 million), and cable’s No. 2 telecast ever in Kids 6-11 (5.3 million/21.8 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (4.6 million/19.0 rating), behind August 2007’s mega-hit, Disney’s “High School Musical 2.” In Kids 6-11, “Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie” now ranks as TV’s No. 1 telecast of 2009, surpassing NBC’s “Super Bowl” (5.3 million vs. 5.1 million).
With “High School Musical 2” and “Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie,” Disney Channel owns cable’s Top 2 scripted telecasts of all time in Total Viewers and cable’s Top 2 telecasts overall in Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14.
