Seventh Season Debut of One Tree Hill In Line with May Sweep Performance
September 15, 2009 (Burbank, CA) – Gossip Girl continues to grow, as The CW’s addictive drama opened its third season by outperforming its year ago season debut in the network’s target demo of women 18-34 (3.4/9 v. 3.3/10), according to Live Plus Same Day Nielsen ratings for Monday, Sept. 14, 2009.
Moving to a later hour this season, Gossip Girl delivered strong demos in its new 9pm time period, scoring the show’s best women 18-34 (3.4/9), adults 18-34 (2.0/5) and women 18-49 (2.2/5) since Dec. 2008. Gossip Girl also posted its largest audience (2.6mil) since Jan 2009.
Competitively, Gossip Girl won the 9pm time period among women 18-34 and women 12-34 (3.0/8). Gossip Girl also ranked second in the hour among adults 18-34 (2.0/5). Paired with One Tree Hill, The CW’s signature Monday finished first from 8-10p.m. with its core audience of women 18-34 (2.9/8), females 12-34 (2.6/8) and female teens (1.8/6-tie). The CW also ranked second from 8-10p.m. with adults 18-34 (1.8/5).
Both Gossip Girl and seventh season drama One Tree Hill returned last night at or above their ratings performance from May. The Gossip Girl faithful returned in force, as the show improved dramatically compared to May 2008, building 31% in women 18-34 and 33% in adults 18-34. One Tree Hill returned just as strong as it finished season 6, virtually on par with its May ratings in women 18-34 (2.4/7), adults 18-34 (1.6/5), adults 18-49 (1.2/3).

LOL such enthusiastic titles today!
But with that being said, what other female-skewing competition was even on last night?? Would love to see the numbers in a few weeks.
Actually, you’ll just have to wait one week. Both shows actually have competition next week, and lots of it.
“The GOSSIP GIRL faithful returned in force …”
What does this even mean? Is there one single show that has ever aired where the “faithful” did not return in “force”?
A key demographic of theirs is 18-34, so, why then keep everything G-rated? Still even in the 9 p.m. slot? This episode had no appeal, no sex factor, no flair, and above all, nothing about it was glamorous! It even was lacking in amazing fashion. What the hell happened?? All I have to say is that the season 3 premiere of Gossip Girl was one of the biggest disappointments I’ve ever seen in terms of a show returning. I hated it so much, I wanted to throw my TV out the damn window. Everything was rushed and felt way off. I felt like I was watching a completely different show. I will not be returning next week, or ever for that matter. Writers, you have failed. House, here I come!!
why cant the CW cater to all people, give us a young police drama or something other than this “girly” stuff 24/7
The Game was the best show on the network, now its gone and supernatural and smallville will be gone in a season or 2
OF COURSE THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE ON TV TO WATCH LETS SEE AFTER HOUSE AND DANCING WITH THE STARS COMES BACK ON. I MISS LUCAS AND PEYTON ON ONE TREE HILL THEY LOST ME AS A FAN
charlene, caps lock will not gain you many friends.
The ratings are down a massive amount from last season, but I guess they are meeting the demographic they want to meet. One Tree Hill’s ratings are not doing well though. Lowest season premier in six years! I predict the ratings to go even lower, because a lot of people are now not happy with the show and the departure of Lucas and Peyton.
Gossip Girl is doing awfully in the ratings. End of story. One Tree Hill is doing better.
SS,
GG > OTH with women 18-34 by ~38% on Monday. In the CW’s eyes, Gossip Girl is doing better, but CW loves *both* of these shows. At least until Monday when they will both face more competition…
