Henry Gibson was on TV my whole life. He died today at 73.
I have a lot of memories of him on TV and in the movies. My earliest memories of him though aren't from Laugh-In (which I do remember well), but from floor wax commercials:
I also loved him in the role of Judge Clark Brown on Boston Legal more recently; but I couldn't find any good clips of that on you tube.

I’ve definitely seen him and a few comedies and he was really funny. He will be missed.
o no! really? that’s sad.
how can you possibly remember he was in floor wax commercials? Were you 2?
those commercials seem like they must’ve run until I was at least 7 or 8. But I was probably 5 or 6 when the jingle was etched into my brain.
He was really, really good in Robert Altman’s Nashville as a self-righteous country singer, which got him one of his two Golden Globe nominations (The other being for Laugh-In in ’67) and should have gotten him an Oscar nod. I didn’t know he was Wilbur in Charlotte’s Web or in Wedding Crashers, though. He got around.
RIP
Roses are red
I am so blue
Henry is gone
And Leno is who?
I loved Gibson in Boston Legal. What inspired casting. That was a show that knew how to cast every part. As everyone seems interested in the 18-49 demographic we get less of that quirky casting and more young, pretty, bland actors.
I really liked this quirky guy.

Farewell, Henry. R.I.P. To borrow a line from another entertainment legend — Thanks for the memories.
Loved him in Laughed-in, enjoyed him in Nashville, and Boston Legal. Thanks, Henry.
And he was the head of the Illinois Nazi Party in The Blues Brothers
“I hate Illinois Nazis!”
What a acting career Henry Gibson had! My parents would remember him from Laugh-In (as do I); I also enjoyed him in everything from the Blues Brothers movie to Boston Legal, and my 10-year-old daughter would remember him from a Disney Movie named Luck of the Irish. Godspeed, Mr. Gibson!
My memory is of him on Laugh-in when he would read a poem.
He’d kind of run/walk/jerk onto the stage, find his spot on the floor, and, usually holding a big daisy, would say:
“A poem ….”
“….. by Hen-ry Gib-son”
Then he’d bow, and read a variation of “Roses are red ..”
I laugh just thinking about it.
Ah, this sucks. Everybody cool is passing away this week. A friend of mine met Patrick Swayze in a Chicago bar about 10 years ago, and he couldn’t have been nicer. And Henry Gibson is very underrated funny. He’s one of those you don’t think about but can remember as always being around comedies. Laugh-In was a great showcase for talent.
“I want all members in the Tri-State district to monitor the state, county, and local authorities on their CBs. Mr. Blues is gonna f*** up. And when he does…he better pray the police get to him before we do.”
He will forever be in my heart….and on my “Bio-dome” DVD
If you have not seen Nashville, this is an excellent reason to do so. Remember Henry Gibson is probably his greatest role. He also helped write his own songs, and is just generally hysterical throughout.
I will miss you
You will me me
