Next week will begin to tell the real story. But I think NBC has to be pretty happy so far. The numbers increased from final half hour of “Biggest Loser.” I’m sure when the scripted dramas are back the numbers will fall further, but I don’t think it will be as bad as some have thought and I think NBC might actually do better with this show than some of the dramas they had on at this time slot last year. Also, when the scripted dramas go into reruns I believe Leno will gain ground then as well. Also, Leno will always be there as a fall back choice for people.
If (and I’m not saying this is going to happen) Leno’s numbers continue to stay steady the haters are going to have to keep loosening their time frame. First it was “tomorrow will tell the real story” now it’s “next week will tell the real story”, what’s it going to be next week “sweeps will tell the real story”?
Andrew, I’ve always thought that evaluating Leno’s potential future before we see how he does against *repeats* of his competition is folly.
The Thanksgiving through late January period will be telling.
big brother wasnt a repeat….it was the finale to what is very well one of the biggest summer shows on network tv…..
An 11.1 million viewers against a Ba Ba Wa Wa special on Patrick Swayze is amazing. Also against the Big Brother finale, no wonder my GE stock soared in the last two days.
we found no receipt of viewer comments like plz interview kathy griffin, & feature kevin eubank’s singer
Here’s how I thnk Jay leno would do from best to worst going down
Tuesday – Should do great; has a freshman drama from CBS (The Good Wife) and ABC (The Forgotten) as competition; Biggest Loser lead in.
Wednesday – Should do good; has only CBS’s CSI NY and freshman ABC’s Eastwick as competition; has SVU as a lead in.
Monday – Should do modestly; has Trauma as a lead in but has stiff competition from CSI: Miami and Castle, which have better lead ins.
Thursday – Should do OK, has The Office/30 Rock as a lead in but will suffer competition from The Mentalist and Private Practice which both ahve better lead ins and perform strongly.
Friday – Should do OK, has Southland as a lead in which is OK, and though it only has 20/20 and Numb3rs as competition, Fridays are the least watched night so I’d expect Jay leno to be lowest then.
Since its on every night Monday-Friday, numbers will stay at a certain average, however numbers may be a bit higher Tuesday and Wednesday nights where theres less ABC/CBS competition (CSI: NY is the only real competition for either of these nights). Mondays and Thursdays may be harder for Leno, since the series has less of a lead in and more competition (The Mentalist & Private Practice as well as CSI: Miami and Castle). Fridays will be the worst just because its historically the least watched night but Jay Leno should still hold up OK.
Yeah but has anyone actually watched his show? I watched on Tuesday it was one of the most unbearable hours of TV i’ve ever seen.
As for his numbers… they’ll drop but not so much that it won’t be considered a success. The real interest for NBC will be the effect Jay’s numbers have on Conan’s Tonight Show
