FOR THE 29 TH WEEK, “THIS WEEK” CUTS TOTAL VIEWING GAP WITH “MEET THE PRESS”

“THIS WEEK” EXPERIENCES MOST GROWTH SEASON TO DATEOn Sunday, September 13, 2009, ABC News “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” placed second with 2.76 million Total Viewers, outperforming  CBS’ “Face the Nation” according to Nielsen Media Research.  The program was also #2 in the key Adults25-54 demographic, tying with CBS.

“This Week” continues to close the gaps with NBC’s “Meet the Press” week to week and year to year.  “This Week” cut into “Meet’s” lead in Adults 25-54 by 56% versus the prior week.  Among total viewers, “This Week” closed the gap by 6% week to week, marking the fourth straight week ABC narrowed the weekly total viewing gap with NBC.  Year to year, “This Week” closed the total viewing gap with “Meet” by 28% (310,000 in 2009 vs. 430,000 in 2008), marking the 29th week since January, ABC has closed the gap with NBC.

Season-to-date, “This Week,” which continues to rank #2 in Total Viewers (3.05 million) and the demo (1.03 million), has also experienced the most growth among both total viewers (+12%) and Adults 25-54 (+4%).   “Meet,” in comparison has declined -3% in Total Viewers -4% in the demo.

George Stephanopoulos is the anchor of “This Week” and Ian Cameron is the executive producer. The program airs Sundays on the ABC Television Network.
