'MEET THE PRESS WITH DAVID GREGORY' IS THE NO. 1 SUNDAY MORNING PUBLIC AFFAIRS PROGRAM FOR THE WEEK ENDING SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13
The Program Is Up Week-to-Week in Homes and Total Viewers and Continues to be No. 1 in the Key Adults 25-54 Demo While ABC Places Third for 3rd Week in a Row
NEW YORK – September 17, 2009 – "Meet the Press with David Gregory" was the most-watched Sunday morning public affairs program in all categories for the week ending September 13, 2009, according to Nielsen Media Research data. The NBC broadcast was No. 1, delivering 3.071 million total viewers, +11% more (+315,000) than second place ABC "This Week's" 2.756 million, an +15% lead (+396,000) over third place CBS "Face the Nation's" 2.675 million, and a +135% advantage (+1,762,000) over FOX News Sunday's 1.309 million viewers. The NBC program has now placed first in total viewers for 409 of the past 413 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage). Rebroadcasts of the program delivered an additional 597,000 total viewers on MSNBC.
In Washington, D.C., "Meet the Press" won with 66,000 viewers (2.4/8 HH), marking a +128% lead over ABC's 29,000 (1.2/4 HH), +6% more than CBS' 62,000 (2.1/7 HH), and a +100% advantage over FOX's 33,000 viewers (1.3/4 HH).
In homes nationally, the NBC broadcast topped the competition with a 2.2and 6 share. ABC came in second with a 2.0/5, CBS in third with a 1.9/5, and FOX was last with a 0.9/3. "Meet the Press" has now placed first in households for 507 of the past 509 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage).
Among adults 25-54, the NBC Sunday morning show was No. 1 with 1,003,000 viewers; CBS came in second with 860,000 viewers, ABC in third with 858,000 viewers and FOX last with 507,000 viewers. This is the third week in a row ABC has placed third in this key demo.
Season-to-date, "Meet The Press" leads second-place "This Week" by +26% (+783,000) in total viewers and +38% in rating A25-54. The program posted week-to-week growth in homes (+5%), total viewers (+5%, or +147,000), and rating M25-54 (+13%). Versus its 3Q'09-to-date average, "Meet the Press" increased in homes (+5%), total viewers (+4% or +119,000), rating W18-49 (+20%) and rating M25-54 (+13%).
On its digital platforms, "Meet the Press" generated more than 248,000 online video streams from September 13 through September 16, 2009. The "Meet the Press" video podcast (available at www.mtp.msnbc.com) remains the top ranked network Sunday Morning program podcast on iTunes.
Last week's guests were Assistant Majority Leader Sen. Dick Durbin; Sen. John Cornyn; Fmr. DNC Chairman Dr. Howard Dean; and Fmr. House Speaker Newt Gingrich. The roundtable featured CNBC's Erin Burnett; author Joshua Cooper Ramo; and NBC's Chuck Todd.
