I hadn’t been watching America’s Got Talent this year, but got home late and sat down with my husband to watch the finale’ he had recorded. What a joke!!!I couldn’t believe, other than the wonderful soprano, that this was the ‘best’ in America! I live near Nashville, and I promise you, you can find better country talent in any neighborhood. It seemed to me,(and I’m guessing,as I haven’t been watching)that the voters were being skewed by the background stories. That shouldn’t matter. Tell the stories AFTER the final results are in, or before season voting starts, but not during the voting. My only other guess as to the final outcome is that American Idol’s thorn in the side, ‘vote for the worst’ , site was up and running. What an embarrassment for NBC…but then again, why should they care. The season is over and they have their ratings. It’s not like they’re looking for an Emmy…

The new Jay Leno show sucks. He doesn’t get it. We don’t give a snot about celebrity interviews. Celebrities are all morons with lame stories from their meaningless lives. The funny stuff was the first 30 minutes of he show. So Jay decides to put the funny stuff at the end of the show. Bad move Jay…say hello to cancelled!

The reason Jay’s numbers were up from tuesday night’s numbers is most definitely because of Miley Cyrus appearing on his 10 at 10 skit. She was so amazing and her answers to his questions were so down to earth! Miley is without a doubt the biggest and brightest young star in Hollywood.

House season 1 was the same way it muddled along on Tue night up until it was able to be teamed up w/ AI then it became a hit.

I watched TBL last night it wasnt that bad i thought i didnt feel it was a hit show either but the CW needs to change its demo. Its clearly not working

Jesus, I am almost happy ‘Body politic’ didn’t make it on the CW… It seems that people just don’t watch that network. Except for VD, which is not that bad, actually, they just can’t put a new show out there.

I think Glee is going to be an interesting show to watch from a numbers perspective at the very least (although I am enjoying it as a whole despite some teething problems). I suspect it will drop off again next week when the ‘real’ competition kicks in but even then I imagine it’ll be getting strong enough demo’s to carry it through. What I think is more interesting is whether these first 13 episodes really matter, it seems to me that Glee was conceived or green lit as an Idol companion and on paper at least its the most Idol compatible show Fox has ever had, which begs the question even if the numbers sink for these 13 episodes would Fox still roll the dice on a back nine out of Idol?

I really think notions of “quality” have very little to do with whether or not a show has ‘hit’ ratings most of the time, but I think in Glee’s case, if they don’t move beyond the constant meta-ness of it for the sake of a little narrative cohesion, it’ll sink by the end of the season. It’s still entertaining me at this point though, and I’ll give another 4 or 5 weeks (baseball withstanding) to become addiction viewing.

I think NBC couldn’t have picked a better season to make a move at 10 PM. Both CSI MIAMI & CSI NY are getting a little long in the tooth so inroads on Monday & Wednesday are possible. Castle, Numb3rs & Private Practice are not powerhouses by any means. The Good Wife looks like another Cane-like disappointment for CBS on Tuesday. The Mentalist looks like the only show Leno doesn’t stand a chance to make a dent in ratingswise. I suspect that Leno will also have a longterm effect on the competitions’ ratings when they normally schedule repeats in December and March, which might force the other networks to try limited run new series in those timeslots instead of reruns (which, in turn, might be a silver lining after all for fans of scripted series). Time will tell but I think it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. But, after 3 airings, it’s pretty safe to say that TJLS is a big fat hit by NBC’s standards. A total collapse is highly unlikely no matter how many wish it so.

I find it odd that CSI:NY builds on Criminal Minds in repeats but when it’s new episodes last season, it’s lost a bit of the lead in, although I guess without L&O, it will do much better.

So basically it’s not a problem for the show. What would you consider the danger zone for Glee with its 18-49 ratings? 2.5 or lower?

Actually let me get a little more detailed: one of the things I’ve noticed is that shows usually have high premiere numbers and then drop. Assuming Glee’s numbers fall a little over the course of the season, what would be an acceptable drop vs. a trend that puts them on the bubble?

Godfather, your math is dangerous for some comparisons but with A18-34 it works almost perfectly because the size of W18-34 is almost (though not exactly) the same as M18-34. So yes, Glee did a 2.0 with men 18-34 (at least in the overnights). At the end of the day, young men are hard to come by though. It’s not all that unusual of a split — definitely a similar theme with SYTYCD and though not quite as pronounced even for AGT with W18-34 and M18-34.

The 5.0 for Glee w/Women 18-34 is good news for FOX, but the overall 18-34 and 18-49 numbers are plenty good enough for now.

Just curious guys, but how ticked does the CW have to be to see FOX absolutely destroying everyone else in their prized demo (18-34 women right)? They make this big deal about a new slate of programming, and one show on FOX destroys every show they have on.

Question for the TVBTN guys though: given the unusual split between the gender demographics for a show, is that usually a good sign for a show’s survival or not? I mean, if it’s pulling a 5.0 in the 18-34 demo among women yet it’s overall is 3.5, that means it’s pulling about a 2.0 among males in that demo, correct (here’s my math: 3.5 is the average of 2 demographics, double it to 7, subtract 5, the women’s rating, and you have 2 left over for the men)? Go ahead and call me an idiot, I’m just curious as to how such a trend compares historically.

last season stylista premiered on tbl’s timeslot and the result was:
total viewers: 2,46
18-49: 1,2
18-34: 1,4

MUCH better than TBl.the next week stylista has a 30% drop.so how deep will TBL sink??

TOP MODEL also the same night has 2 milllion viewers more!!

Honestly TBL was not bad. If I had known what it was about before hand I would have already had it set to record. I really caught it by accident because I was already on the channel. It was actually one of the CW’s better shows.

Samuel, the ancient Nielsen spreadsheet I have only goes through Salt Lake in 2002, so I’m not sure its even remotely comparable, but for Salt Lake on NBC, the primetime coverage had a 19.2 HH rating, and a 31 HH share over the entire 2 week period.

To put that in perspective, last nights AGT finale averaged a 9.75 HH rating, 15.5 share.
