Bad new for fans of TNT's Dark Blue in last night's season finale:

Via TVBill:

Unfortunately, no bump for (solid) Dark Blue finale. 1.61 mil, 0.6/2 A1849. Demo matches last wk's series low - is that a new low in vwrs?

Ouch, and yes, that is a low in viewers -- I'm pretty sure it had never even dipped below 2 million before, though I'd have to check. I'm sure it never dipped to 1.61 million.  The good news is it held its demo numbers stable even without Leverage as a lead-in.

True that — it did hold its demo. Better news, I guess, is that it’s lead-in was weaker than last week’s LEVERAGE (making retention better). Lead-in was CON AIR, at 1.76 million, 0.9/3 demo.

its not as bad as trust me did

    There is no potentional.

Robert, thanks for your help. I am really sad to see such low ratings for Dark Blue. I really like this show. I hope it gets renewed.

  5. TVBill

Actually, CON AIR was 1.77 million…. (it was 1.766, and I didn’t round up. Time for that afternoon coffee… :-) )

  6. I liked the season finale a lot. Dark Blue keep the demo, so I’m guessing its position doesn’t change much.

  7. Steve

Damn shame, really like this show… maybe there’s still a chance. :(

The Wikipedia Dark Blue page claims the show has been renewed for a second season. I’m very suspicious of this assertion and I don’t see any proof provided there, unless I just missed it.

I watched the Finale and loved it. One of the best episodes. Surprised it wasn’t higher numbers. Well there was no lead so that kind of makes a big difference. This show is amazing and I hope to see it come back for another season. Trust Me had much worse #’s and yikes the new show with the Middle Aged Men coming soon looks nothing close to how good Dark Blue is. If they were smart they would keep it going!!

No one has mentioned how now there is new programming on NBC, ABC, Fox and on. This was a summer show and with shows like Jay Leno and such that are getting huge huge promotion there needed to be more promotion for Dark Blue and a lead in show.

Dark Blue had a lead in for all but one episode. It failed to do much, and decreased while Leverage increased. Plus Dark Blue had A LOT of promotion when it first started. I remember sitting in the movies watching previews of it. Plus TNT promoted it on TV for weeks/months.

That is a good point Pollyanne. Dark Blue was up against the Jay Leno show which followed the finale of America’s Got Talent which had huge ratings. Dark Blue didn’t have much of a chance. That should be taken into consideration. Does anyone know if Dark Blue was promoted on any other channel besides TNT?

Looks like Dark Blue is likely on its way out. Without a lead in, and a series low the shows future looks blue.

  14. CrashMacKenzie

    Man, that show sucks.

  15. SummerFun

Dark Blue should be renewed. It’s a great show!

    bye bye dark blue

I really tried to like Dark Blue, but it is too much of a gritty, cop drama for me. I like Leverage for the quirky people and the happy outcomes. I don’t like TV that keeps me anxious, and that is precisely what Dark Blue does. I have enough of that in real life.

  18. Dan

I wonder how long it will take TNT to announce Dark Blue is axed.

I think cop shows (of the non ‘procedural’ variety) have a bit of a problem after The Wire and The Shield. The standard of quality has been set so absurdly high, that stuff like Dark Blue and Southland can’t help but seem a bit milquetoasty and redundent.
