And speaking to you, Alex. CNN and MSNBC have agendas and do not report all of the facts without bias. I networks cannot be our sole source for facts - nor can the White House that has it's own agenda. The CBR today has released info that the current Baucus healthcare bill will result in cuts to the Medicare Advantage benefits that many seniors sign up for. Has CNN reported on that? Or MSNBC? That is a fact and where can we get that info? I read that FOX reported on this and senior groups are getting the news out. I think it is a problem of bias FOR and AGAINST certain policies and that isn't good for any of us.

yes, you are right and we are wrong about that. about our views. about our thoughts or how we think policies should be written. do you ever think that it's possible? maybe you are right or maybe we are right or maybe we are both right in some way. for heaven's sake, to categorize people who go to certain marches & rallys or want rights that we don't want handed out or who watch networks we don't watch isn't an accurate represenatation of who we are. I watch fox and I'm educated, idependent, like fiscal responsibility but also like social programs. I glance at other stations but generally do not appreciate their style or tone or content. I like the BBC and N
PR. I think for myself. I don't appreciate being categorized by what tv channels I watch...they are not who I am and that is a mistake political analysts & newscasters are making along with others who pigeonhole people.

Why is the FOX news channel on every gym, doctors office, and waiting room across the country? I believe this slants the ratings in their favor.

FOX news viewers are the most misinformed according to a PEW research center poll. Also, 79% of FOX viewers were misinformed regarding the health care myths in HR 3200.

Should we go over the litany of stories that FAUX ignores? Did FOX news cover the AZ pastor that called for the death of President Obama? "I'm gonna pray he dies and goes to hell."

Where was FAUX news covering this story? They are partisan, lying hypocrites and those who watch them in exclusion to other cable networks are generally misinformed.

Daily odds.. Odorman off tonight after stint on SNF. Re-runs would work though, he keeps spouting the same stuff day after day, and the worst person in world never changes. Liberal agenda says to attack the messenger, not the message, so re-runs do work for Odorman.

Just a note that all good things come to an end and all darkness will be revealed to the public. Fox Network is full of darkness. Their time for scrutiny will come soon so enjoy while you can

Another way to look at the numbers, it looks like O'Reilly is getting his election numbers back without an election to aid him. Something to think about.

Lurker

Thank you for making the point about the Pre Election Surge in viewers. I would guess that if you were to look at the ratings for all of the cable news. They have all dropped from the same time last year. FNC has just dropped less.

A re-run of family guy also had over 3 million.
Fox keeps it very entertaining, and crazy, which is why they get so many views. The other networks have a hard time keeping the news interesting because they don't have personalities that will make up crazy lies for the people.

Who is this numbnuts Philosopher Jay?

Rupert Murdoch didn't inherit a media empire from his dad. He got a little newspaper in Adelaide.

and stop distorting FNC number's with number's from last year when the 08 election was heating up. Idiot spinmeister.

"Having your top shows losing 2% and 30% can’t be good news for billionaire Fox News owner Sir Rupert Murdoch. "

Common sense would probably tell ya that it has something to do with the presidential election. I'm going to guess that all cable news shows are down in the ratings from this time last year.

Network news creams the cable ratings. Spongebob does much better than any Fox show. Says something. Fox is the leader of the wingnuts of the Republican party so it has to get more ratings. Everyone else gets to watch real news and enjoy life.

Sorry, I meant to say that Fox News was up in "daytime ratings" about 3% and down in "primetime ratings" about 20%. See http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/09/19/cable-news-ratings-for-september-18/5224 for the actual numbers.

Compared to a year ago, Thursday, September 18, 2008, Fox News was up from 1,534,000 viewers to 1,586,000 viewers. That is a rise of 52 thousand or about 3%.
Compared to a year ago, Thursday, September 18, 2008, Fox New was down from 3,998,000 viewers to 3,238,000 viewers. That is a fall of about 760 thousand or about 20%. To rise 3% in your daytime audience and to lose 20% in your much bigger primetime audience is not good.

The O'Reilly show went from 4,092,000 to 3,913,000, a loss of about 180 thousand, only down about 2%.
Hannity went from 4,589,000 viewers to 3,166,000 viewers, a loss of about 1.4 million viewers, down about 30%. Having your top shows losing 2% and 30% can't be good news for billionaire Fox News owner Sir Rupert Murdoch.

Having inherited a media empire from his father, Sir Keith Murdoch, and never having had to actually work a day in his life, I'm not sure how many billions he has squirreled away for a rainy day.

The O’Reilly show went from 4,092,000 to 3,913,000, a loss of about 180 thousand, only down about 2%.
Hannity went from 4,589,000 viewers to 3,166,000 viewers, a loss of about 1.4 million viewers, down about 30%. Having your top shows losing 2% and 30% can’t be good news for billionaire Fox News owner Sir Rupert Murdoch.

one could say for certain that in the past broadcast news had a lot more viewers than it has now, a logical person could say that their influence has decreased and the influence of FNC has increased,

why?

some say that's an open question.

that's nonsense

clearly ppl are chosing.

I used to race home from work every day at 4:30 (I commute 30 miles) to try to get home in time for Glenn Beck. I risked speeding tickets, passing people at high rates of speed around S curves, and road-rage confrontations to make it home in time to for the show, but most of the time I only caught the last 20 to 30 minutes. By the time I got to my abode, I was stressed out and disappointed.

Then a marvelous thing occurred! I traded in my Clunker for a new car last month. My new Hyandai is very nice car, but I must admit I miss my faithful old Ford Explorer. It was big, comfortable & powerful. My little Hyandai is tiny, the seat sits closer to the pavement & I feel powerless in the face of an eighteen-wheeler! Feeling like a shrimp on the highway is bad enough, but also my bad hip is going out from having to slink in and out of the car every day. Not to mention, I have the negative side effect of this awful thing called a car payment! There is, however, one saving grace with my Hyandai and that is this: the XM radio! I get Fox News ON the radio! Now I no longer have a crippling commute! I can take my sweet time coming home & enjoy the ride. I even smile & wave at other motorists. It’s amazing. And so are the therapeutic benefits of tuning in to Fox News every day, especially while commuting. Thanks XM Radio! I coast along with Glenn Beck to arrive at my abode at the end of a long day & look forward to tuning in to my other four men: Bret Baier, Shep Smith, Bill O'Reilly and Sean the Hannity! As a lonely widow living with two mutts and a cat, it's awesome hanging out with five men every evening: Glenn, Bret, Shep, Bill and Sean!

Robert thanks for the feed back and recognozing that I was going out of my way to produce the % and totals. Also thanks to those that found them interesting and yes I will keep them up.

One post stated that you will not change the far left and far right..and that is very true. Lets try to reach the middle they are the ones that will matter in the days, months, and years to come.

To the person that was mad at Bill for re-stating the number the Fire Department stated. Please do not tune him out for reportng a fact he received remember that Bill does not speculate that is why FNC is fair and balance. There is plenty of info that disputes that number and the fact is everyone who has seen the pics know the numbers were far greater the 75K. But Bill believes in reporting what he can support via the fire department. Also lets not forget that DC is the only (can not call them a state) listed population that was more Lib the conservative. See the gallup poll all 50 states polled were more conservative then liberal except DC.

BTW did you see the 175 folks who came out for organizing for america they called it the 9/13 march or something like that. Now I believe you can get an accurate account of their number.

For all that think the number was 75K I ask to look at the crowd in side a FedX Feild and ask if those who showed up all over DC in would have a seat in the stadium and there would still be some 20K empty since the staduim is designed for 90K.

Just a thought...

John

There is bias in all media, but I find MSNBC to be childish, atleast with their prime time opinion personalities. Because of that I never watch their day time news, I do not even know what channel (number) it is. Nothing wrong with liberal bias, you can see right through that, but the childish behavoirs makes viewing not worth my time. I go with Foxnews for most of my Cable TV News, and balance it out with a little NPR radio and newspapers online. Although I did start Boycotting O'Rielly this week due to a factual error (or lie as I call it) which is why I am on this site, I have been told that I am not the only one who is upset with him right now. I want to see if his ratings go down since tueday which was the last day many of us stopped watching.

If I have to choose between the two biases, I'll choose FNC over MSNBC any day. O'reilly admits that some of the Fox News commentators don't treat the Obama Admin fairly, Beck admits that he makes mistakes in his reporting once in awhile, but he always tries to genuinely have the best interest of the viewers. FNC holds some degree of balance and honor over the completely close-minded and oblivious MSNBC.

To another point, no matter what anyone says, you'll almost never convince someone placed on the left or the right that has an agenda with the polar opposite. It's just a waste of time. They're the ones who are closed minded.

what is up with all the hyperpartisan posts in this thread? Can't you guys just be Americans? is this some kind of contest for bragging rights? There are forums for this online for this, and Chat Rooms too. I take part in such stuff in Yahoo Chat Political Lobby 4. But it seems this vitriolic attitude is getting strong over nothing. No Issue is being discussed, just empty partisan jabs. I could understand being passionate about an issue, but what I see is nothing more than Jocks fighting over their favorite team.

BTW GO REDSKINS he he he

Ah, yes, once again the fringe (namely Faux News Viewers) try to paint themselves as "in touch" with the american people. What's that? The Republican party is a minority in BOTH houses of congress? They lost the presidential election by that much? Oh well, guess that they're out of touch after all. Elections speek volumes don't they?

More than one Million showed up, we filled the capital Grounds and then the mall, including he ENTIRE area that Obamas Inaugeration took up, and yes this does shut down the city, and we were blocking traffic for mile which is why the Police forced us to march 2 hours early. Our shear numbers became a Public Saftey hazard.

About the DC Fire Department, they do not estimate Crowd Sizes at the National Mall or the Capital Grounds. They Estimate Crowds that Gather between Buildings where it becomes a Fire Hazard, the number they gave was just a small segment of the the over flow that ended up between Buildings.

If you do not believe me, fine, I would not believe me either if I was not there to see it myself. But please take a look at this video.

and do your own count (is it possible to count that many people) A Friend of mine in a chat room did a Spacial Data for that and came up with 1.1 Million, and this March does not include the people who just went to the National Mall and Capitol Building instead of meeting up at Freedom Plaza.

I am not going to argue this point in here anymore, this is not the place for that. I do that in Yahoo Political Lobby 4 (chat room) I am just here because of my new found hobby of tracking Cable News Ratings.

But please take a look at this video.

teamusajohn11 there is no way 1 million people were in DC on 9/12. One million people shuts down the city and you get things like what happened during the Inauguration, the city was in a stand still. On 9/12 only a few blocks were closed off. The crowd starting from the Capital hardly made it west of 3rd street.

Anyways, these Fox minion's are hilarous for the mosr part. Who in their right mind cheers a tv station like a cheeleading squad. I'm also fascinated with the little terms and words Glenn Beck and company feeds them and they repeat like little kids. When will you guys understand that ratings don't legitimize a corrupt organization. It's now just alot of angry white folks listening to what makes them happy and liberals watching to get a good laugh or get pissed off at the television.
This talk of the "death of the media" and "fringe media" makes you guys look that more ridiculous. There is a whole other world outside of what Beck, Bill, and Sean tell ya. Apparently only 2-4 million people watching Fox News are the true patriots, the true Americans. The rest are those crazy liberals. or so Fox would let you believe.

I heard somewhere that the figure 70,000 to 75,000 at the DC Rally came from the DC fire department who supposedly keeps tabs on such things for public safety reasons, but I could never confirm that.

It was reported in the news that 1.5-2 million people were at the rally. And as the leftist have always done I'll go with what was reported. LOL! This is fun! Like the ad says how could all the old leftist press miss the story. The story was that everyday Americans came out to the rally. Not racist and angry people. You leftist still can't get the story right. MARXIST=DEMOCRATS=TERRORIST All the same Ask Rick Sanchez.

I have been peeking into this website all week, I was at the DC March on 9-12-09, and many in the media completely misreported how many people were there (actually its a flat out lie). I was a Bill O'Riellys biggest fan before this protest, when he said only 70,000 attended on Monday I emailed him. Then he repeated the following day and I changed channels and started a one man boycott, Later I found out many others did the same thing. Nothing Organized, just people who went to DC on saturday who stopped watching one their own. I got curious and I googled to find this site and am now keeping track. Tuesday was the last day many of us watched O'Rielly, and so far (without checking the week by week trends) it seems O'Rielly is going down in Viewers. Has this been a trend for a while? If enough people are as upset as I am about the misreporting of a FACT, could O'Riellys prime time slot pass Becks crappy early prime spot?

BTW, Millions showed up to DC, or atleast a Million did

I know more Doctors and Lawyers watching FOX than the toothless hicks the left would have you believe is watching. So to say that the FOX viewership is uneducated is disingenuous... but what would you expect from the MSM (i.e. Fringe Media)... facts and truth? Don't be silly.

When I referred to 'MSM' (Main Stream Media) as in the first post of the day, I meant all media. News papers, magazines, radio and yes, the network 1/2 hour news broadcasts. They all basically try to make FNC out to be the 'fringe'. I myself used to think Fox was little too far to the right ... perhaps fringe. I know longer believe this is the case. I was not trying to compare O’Reilly's numbers to Brian Williams. Just stating I believe Fox can no longer be considered 'fringe'

Somewhere along the line (certainly by the 2008 election) NBC/MSNBC just went off the deep end!! In my opinion, Olbermann and Maddow are the most condescending, arrogant, self-important, anchors I have ever watched. They spend their entire shows talking down to me, calling me a racists, ripping on FOX and reliving the Bush presidency; no time to actually cover any real news. I don't know how anyone can put themselves through that and feel good about the human condition afterwards? Perhaps this is why their numbers/trends are going the direction they are?

Yeah ... Fox is right of center, but at least they are up front about it. They cover ALL the news, they lay out the facts, add their opinion, occasionally let someone fight for the opposing position, and then let me process it all and decide. They truly believe I possess some minimal threshold of intelligence and have the ability to make up my own mind. Olbermann and Maddow just tell me what to believe (when they actually cover a story) and make sure I know that I'm either stupid or a racist if I disagree ... cause their real smart ya' know ... Rachel was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford and Kieth enrolled at Cornell when he was 16 (its true, look it up). BTW, I'm a member of the faculty at a very large state university ... so against all odds, Fox has at least one semi-educated viewer.

I thought Olbermann was kind of funny and entertaining in the early days ... but now he just down right abrasive all the time. I'm not surprised a bit by the ratings numbers above.

Sorry for the ling diatribe ... GO FOX!

Fox's evening line up should be ...

O'Reilly
Hannity
Beck
Greta
Red Eye
repeat rotation.

I'm in central time and it's hard to catch Beck at 4PM and 1AM is pushing my bedtime... not to mention I'm to cheap to shell out for TIVO.

@Gibson: By running a cumulative total for non-FNC programming while operating on the assumption that FNC programs have the same viewers hour-to-hour creates a false premise when you compare the resulting numbers to each other. That results in a conclusion that more people watch another news source than watch FNC. That's why a reputable organization like Nielsen uses numbers that show numbers of viewers at a given time. You may simply look at the numbers hour to hour and compare. You have obviously heard all the reasons before why comparing network viewership to cable news viewership is difficult.

So... it is not fact that more people watch other cable news outlets than FNC. Also, by not qualifying as a valid logical argument, it is also not factual to state that the networks garner more viewers than FNC. It is not valid simply because trying to determine an accurate figure for cumulative viewership is an insurmountable task.

I would be interested in Red Eye's ratings! I DVR it every night and watch it each morning once I get my kiddo out the door to school! Some days it is the only 'news' I watch if I am feeling particularly bummed by what is going on in the world!

You gotta love Gibson's spin. But please try to keep it simple for all us toothless, trailer park, bible-thumping, gun-wielding Fox News viewers out there.

2+2 = 5 would have been easier to follow and just as factual.

In al my years of Watching "Countdown with Keith O.", I have NEVER seen him interview, either across from his face or via video hook up, someone with a different point of view?

Has anyone else noticed?

Isn't that kind of cowardly?
