UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif.   September 24, 2009   NBC's "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" have delivered decisive victories for the third quarter of 2009, with both shows winning their slots in the key late-night demographic of adults 18-49 over all cable and broadcast competition.

For the quarter, Conan delivered bigger audiences than CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and ABC's lineup of "Nightline" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in every key ratings demographic: adults, men and women 18-34; adults, men and women 18-49; and adults, men and women 25-54.

At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon also defeated CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and ABC's Kimmel in every key demographic during the quarter, which extended from July 1 through September 18.

Conan's third-quarter margin over CBS's "Late Show" is 49 percent in adult 18-49 viewers and 119 percent in adult 18-34 viewers.  At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon won the quarter over CBS's "Late Late Show" in 18-49 viewers by a 37 percent margin and in 18-34 viewers by 78 percent.

In the valuable adult 18-34 category, Jimmy Fallon out-delivered Letterman for the quarter (383,000 vs. 326,000), despite Jimmy's later start time.

For the third quarter of 2009, Conan's average 1.506 million adults 18-49 topped the 1.009 million of Letterman; in total viewers, Conan's audience of 2.879 million persons trailed Letterman's 3.340 million; and in adults 18-34, Conan's 714,000 million out-scored Letterman's 326,000.  At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon's 789,000 adults 18-49 for the quarter out-delivered Ferguson's 576,000; in total viewers, Jimmy's 1.402 million trailed Ferguson's 1.543 million; and in adults 18-34, Jimmy's 383,000 topped Ferguson's 215,000.

Conan concluded the third quarter with a dominant win over all broadcast competition for the week of September 14-18, delivering his highest weeklong 18-49 and total-viewer results of the quarter   Conan's best since the week of June 22-26.  Jimmy Fallon also generated his biggest 18-49 audience and overall viewership since June 22-26.

At 1:35 a.m. ET for the week, original telecasts of "Last Call with Carson Daly" (0.4 rating in 18-49, 0.4 in 18-34) tied Ferguson encores and mostly original telecasts of Kimmel in adult 18-49 rating.  In the valuable adult 18-34 category, "Last Call" out-rated Ferguson (0.3) and doubled Kimmel (0.2).  Note that "Last Call" was preempted on Friday last week.
