DISCOVERY’S NEW SERIES ‘THE COLONY’ FINISHES FIRST SEASON STRONG
Finale Helped Discovery Achieve Best Third Quarter on Record for Key Demos
(Silver Spring, Md.) - Discovery Channel wrapped up its best third quarter on record for Tuesday primetime P/M 25-54 and P/M 18-49 delivery with the season finale of THE COLONY on Tuesday, September 22 at 10PM E/P. The episode ranked as the night's #5 primetime ad-supported cable program for M25-54 delivery and posted double digit gains vs. the September 2008 time slot average for P2+ (+22%) and most key demos.
With Discovery's 3Q09 top four regular nonfiction series* on Tuesday nights for M25-54 and M18-49 -DEADLIEST CATCH, AFTER THE CATCH, THE COLONY and SWORDS - the network also ranked as 3Q09's #1 ad-supported cable network on Tuesday nights for M25-54 and M18-49 delivery. It was among the top five for P25-54 (#3), P18-49 (#3), M18-34 (#3), and P18-34 (#4).
Tuesday night's SWORDS premiere at 9PM, which posted double-digit time slot gains vs. the September 2008 time slot and was a top-ten ad-supported cable program in its time slot, helped strengthen the night. Discovery was a top-five primetime ad-supported cable network on September 22 among M25-54 (#4), M18-34 (#4) and M18-49 (#5) delivery.

This is probably the worst show on the network.
What show, the colony, it was great, very informative always wanted to see a wood gasifyer work, sure it was a bit staged but as reality shows go it was quite informative.
they actually did things to survive unlike Survivor
The Colony was such an interesting “experiment”. It really was a good survival show and really showed what a bunch of people will do to survive. I will admit, sometimes it seemed like there was just too many coincidences that made survival a little easier but all in all, a good concept, for sure.
I think the show would be much more interesting if there were actually 2-3 groups of “survivors” left in an area of limited supplies to see who could actually get this to work. And of course fewer people with soooooo many specialized skills in the sciences that would tend toward survival. Maybe a farmer or an artist or a school teacher or a hunter. Definitely serve up a greater cross-section of society.
